All It Takes Is One by Adrianna - March 2023 Scholarship Essay

That one person. This is starting to feel like a potato chip commercial! How can I choose just one? Upon reflecting on the past 11 years, it’s difficult to pinpoint a singular individual who has impacted my education more positively than the other. However, if I had to choose one, it would be my fourth-grade teacher, Ms. Wiese.

Ms. Wiese was a dreamer; a true believer; who always told me that I was going to make it big in life. I can specifically remember her telling me, “You better remember me when you become famous!” That always stuck with me. It also didn’t hurt that we shared the same love for Softball. As a former player herself, her face lit up the first time I shared how passionate I was about the sport. From that day forward, she was always in my corner - helping me strive towards my educational goals, motivating me to take difficult classes that would better prepare me for the next level; she would even come to my games and cheer from the sidelines. Having her as a mentor, not only as a teacher, but as a former athlete, was so crucial to my success. Ms. Wiese was there through all the ups and downs, the big wins and the tough losses. She saw a spark in me and never let me give up. She always told me to follow my dreams of becoming a college softball player, and I never forgot those words.

Although I still have a year left until I leave for college, I have partially fulfilled my goal. I’m verbally committed to be a starting pitcher for one of the best softball programs in the conference, and I plan on making a big name for myself. I’m going to make Ms. Wiese proud! I was so blessed to have a teacher like her, and one can only hope that all students will have a similar experience with their educators. All it takes is one person, and that one person can inspire a lifetime of achievements.
