Attending my Dream College by Adriana - August 2020 Scholarship Essay

Ever since I was a little girl I always knew what I wanted to study, engineering. I know it seems kinda weird to think that a little five year old was going around saying that without truly knowing what that meant. I went on through elementary, middle school, and high school knowing what I wanted to study, but not where.
I’m going into the engineering field, which in theory sounds like just math and science (which it is), but it’s much more. See it consists of a bit of everything. You have to know how to communicate within a group, know when to lead or help, and most importantly identify and solve a problem. Basically you're kinda like a superhero that no one thinks about.
With so many components that need to be taken into consideration when picking a university that will properly equip me it seems a bit impossible. I want a school where I can learn the basics of what it means to be an engineer, but also have a hands on experience. I don’t want to leave college and enter the work field just to learn that what I was taught in university was just the surface and had way more to learn because I simply didn’t know how to do it.
For the last couple of years I’ve been looking at various universities, from Ivy leagues to state schools and to be completely honest I’m not in love with any of them. I find that the college life has too much competition and is so academically driven that I feel like I would just miss out on 5 years of my life.
To put it in simple words, my dream college isn’t an Ivy League school or some specialized program, my dream college is simply life. It will have its ups and downs, but that’s how you grow and learn. Since I have been experiencing life for the last 18 years, I’m guessing I’m already attending my dream college. As for the graduate program, I don’t think I’ll ever get there. In life you’ll never stop learning until it’s time for you to rest.
