Don't Lose Yourself by Adriana - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
There are many pieces of advice I would give to any incoming freshman. However, there is one that I have found necessary throughout high school. I would tell them not to lose who they truly are. One can think that will never happen, but with work, friends, and stress it can happen.
The amount of work in high school is underestimated by most incoming freshman. Everyone thinks it will be easy but then it hits them like a deer in headlights. Most kids tend to let themselves get overwhelmed with all the work. They forget who they are, they start losing sleep over this work and over the weeks and months it can change a person.
Everyone says that high school is where you will meet some of the friends you will keep forever. Although this may be true, one has to pick their friends wisely. In high school, everyone tries to fit in. People begin to lose who they are to please other people. Moral standards drop, grades are affected, or in the complete opposite, by choosing the right friends, you could be benefited.
Stress is something that everyone feels during high school. There may even be those people that deal well with pressure, yet at some point we all break. Some people let this stress get to them so that they aren’t as happy as they once were. One has to keep in sight what we once were and how we got there.
