It's a beautiful world, get out and experience it by Adrian - November 2017 Scholarship Essay

Traveling abroad would be a dream to acquire in my educational journey. Studying abroad in university would allow me to be able to help others in a way I never could before, to take in new cultures as well as truly experience my own cultures, and also help me to discover new career opportunities.

By enrolling in a study abroad program, I will be able to enhance my awareness of the world around me and learn leadership skills through education in a new world. In my opinion to be an educated citizen today requires people to be able to see the world through others' eyes and to understand the international dimensions of the problems we confront as a nation such as poverty, world hunger, and war. When you go to any new country it is immensely different than where you came from which can show you how to help others and be a leader for those who are less fortunate than you. I recently travelled to Spain for the humanitarian trip as a teen camp leader to help impoverished children receive an education and learn English. When I arrived I saw how these children struggled for food and basic necessities and it made me want to do more, which is what studying abroad could help me accomplish. I want to major in pre-med and Study abroad in underdeveloped countries. It would be scary but also rewarding because I can get experience in my field as well as help families to stay healthy and get supplies such as food, water, and other basic necessities.

My family is what I call multicultural, I have family from England and Germany on my father’s side and family from El Salvador and Spain on my mother's side. All of these countries are beautiful and are full of life and colour. I would love to have the chance to see where my roots came from. By studying abroad in Germany or Spain over my years of university I can experience an authentic adventure as well as see, walk, hear, and taste culture just as my ancestors did. Also, travelling contains lots of exposure, experience and personal development. It has the deep effect on students because every student comes from a different background, has a different story, and different culture. These are the things that make a person who they are, they start the crazy recipe that is your life composed of the potential to be and do anything. Getting to know new cultures will help me to be more conscious and respectful towards others religions, traditions and actions.

Another great opportunity that studying abroad can lead to is new job opportunities and life skills. I could come to know how it feels to live independently and learn how to make hard decisions without family support. I would also be able to experience a different and new education system, to see new places which would broaden my thoughts. All these things can make me confident and powerful which can lead me down the path of success. Eventually, I plan on moving to Germany as a surgeon after I complete medical school. To do this I would have to learn German as a second language so I can be capable of helping my patients that only speak German. Language barriers are problems for many businesses and hospitals today, however, By studying abroad I will be able to learn the language even faster than in a classroom.It has been said that to learn a foreign language you have to travel to a foreign country. I would learn languages such as German or Spanish much faster by being surrounded by people who speak them regularly and also by being able to practice on a daily basis.

In conclusion, studying abroad is a positive experience that everyone should consider to grow as a person. It also can help increase harmony between students by getting them to understand the different cultures people have. Whenever somebody travels to a new place they learn something new and explore wonders and increase skills as well as knowledge because the whole world is made for everyone to share knowledge and gain experience from each other.
