Let's Think Outside the Box! by Addalynn - October 2018 Scholarship Essay
In my life, I have heard the term "let's think outside the box". I never really knew what it meant until, maybe, seventh grade. The term, "think outside the box", in my opinion, means don't allow your thoughts and ideas be influenced by ordinary things. For example, at my school-Compass Academy-you see a bunch of weird stuff going on around the school because everything is a project. Everything you learn is turned into a project and you have to present your final product. People have made skits, songs, music videos and more. Normal presentations consist of information and photos and maybe a video here and there. That is considered the ordinary product. The extraordinary products are the one in which you wouldn't expect to be presented by high school teenagers in front of a panel of adults, which are music videos, songs, skits and more.
To think outside the box means to be different. Be creative and hold yourself to no limits. A box has limits because it has walls and it's enclosed so nothing is let out and whatever's in it is what's in it. Anything outside of that can do whatever it wants. In today's world, there are only a handful of people who "think outside the box". Those people are the ones who can change the world, for the better.
To think outside the box means to be original. Don't copy someone else, don't be a follower and "don't stay within the parameters of society" as one of my old teachers, Mr. Cook, would say. To think outside the box means to stand out. Don't be afraid to add some pizzaz to the world. Do you think world leaders like Martin Luther King Jr would've made a difference if they didn't do something that was against "social order"? No, because then everything would still be the way it was then-segregated and hateful.
To think outside the box means to change the social norms, stand out, be creative and above all, make a difference in the world.
