Over the past four years I have found that there are many essential qualities necessary for college. When looking for a college that fits your personal needs, one thing that is never asked is, "how can you make a difference?" In the past year I have discovered that many colleges are the same, and they attempt to sway you in one way or another. Truthfully, this is a lot to take in for a normally dependent individual. I think that one of the questions that must be addressed is, "how can I make a difference?" This question is the basis for the characteristic of leadership. Leadership is an important quality to obtain and is extremely necessary for success in a person's future endeavors.

Being a skilled leader is in no way an easy task. Some people are born as natural leaders, but the great majority of leaders are self-made. A self-made leader shows distinct character traits that separate them self from the pack. Some of these traits include: hard work, self-reliance, determination, poise, composure, and honesty. I strongly feel that leadership is very essential to success. In a college setting it is important to continue to build ones ideology of how to become successful. Becoming a leader will allow a person to step out and become independent-minded. If a person chooses to be independent, than they will have the opportunity to make decisions that may be difficult to make. Decision-making is one thing that separates a leader from a group.

A college student must become a leader in one way or another. There are many ways to be a leader in today's world, from serving the community, to serving your family, to serving your peers. It is essential to stand out from the crowd, which is one thing that people seem to struggle with. I hope that students continue to become independent leaders, because it will make the world a better place.
