He Had A Dream by Adam - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

I am choosing to submit this essay on January 15, Martin Luther King JR. Day. Therefore the word I am about to pen is Dream. As we all know, King’s iconic “I have a dream” speech went a lot farther than the eyes in the crowd. It reached every corner of the Earth and left imprinting images in the minds of many, including myself. As a leader in my community, similar to MLK, I also have a dream. My dream is to attend college, obtain a degree that is suitable to me, and to graduate with little to no debt.
My post-secondary education has not only been a dream for myself, but it has also been a dream of my mothers. My mom is my biggest supporter. She’s never let me down, no matter how many times I have let her down. She gives without reward or recognition, which is what makes her great. Ever since I can remember, she has told me that I, literally, “have no choice, I HAVE to go to college”. She’s even showed me what my life would look like without a college education, by simply driving through an apartment complex and lower-income neighborhood.
My dream is to, obviously, receive a quality education after high school, but to also live in a nice big house with fancy cars. Besides owning fancy vehicles and everything, I most importantly want a family. I want children to spoil and raise. I want to have a wife that I can love and cherish till I grow old. None of this will be possible, at least not to my personal standards, unless I have a good education to provide for them.
Martin Luther King JR. was an outstanding individual with an inspirational purpose. He had a dream of equality, likewise I have a dream of a prominent future filled with joy. My mother has taught me the importance of education and I am very grateful for her. I want to attend college not only for myself and my mom, but also for my future family and their principles. That is my dream and I am excited to transform it into reality!
