Music of Life by Adam - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
If I were a professor I would teach a class called Music Feeling. I would teach this course because I have experienced how music can move you and I love that experience. Isn't it amazing that there are only seven music notes yet there are infinite combinations used to create songs or that every person feels something different when they hear the same notes? There are countless feelings that are conveyed through music. In my class, students would listen for themselves and decide what they like or disliked based on their own ideas, without the pressure to agree with their friends. My class would come together and listen to new and old songs, albums, movie scores, etc. trying to find the emotions conveyed through each of them. We would also go into discussions on what was felt or what they thought on each of the songs. Of course, people are going to have some different opinions in what they like but that's the best part. A discussion would take place without arguments but instead students would discuss opinions and hopefully they would learn to understand other people's perspectives and thoughts.
The class would be an opportunity to see how others interpret things and to see the diversity in both music and in people. Just because everyone is hearing the same thing doesn't mean everyone felt the same way. People have had different life experiences and those experiences allow them to bring a different perspective to the group. My class would bring life to music lovers who want to look deeper into what is happening inside the music we listen to daily. It would be an enjoyable class that also teaches students something worth learning.
