Difficulties of a Political Science Class by Adam - June 2016 Scholarship Essay
My biggest academic obstacle was with a class I had the second semester of my sophomore year of college called “Comparative Laws & Governments.” This class consisted of conversations and discussions about politics and government in other countries and how they compared to those of the United States of America. At the time, my major was Social Work, which meant I was required to take a political science class. This was a particularly challenging course, because in the past, I have not always done well in keeping up or even holding good debates or discussions about current politics.
Even though I would read the chapter days before the test, I would end up failing the tests that were given by my professor no matter how much I studied for them. What really helped me in the class was typing up a research paper that compared the economies and government of both Japan and Iran and studying for the final. Doing both of these things helped me grasp the concepts that I need to pass one of the most difficult classes that I have ever taken. After turning in my research paper and taking the final, for a whole week I was worried about what grade I had gotten in the class and was just hoping that I got a “C” in the class just because of how hard it was. When I finally checked my grades, I had gotten an “A” in the class. I was very overjoyed because of my hard work and how I refused to give up.
