AR - ARKANSAS by Abigial - July 2016 Scholarship Essay

There are many people who can impact your life. Number one is your parents. They are the people that kids look up to their whole life, even if they don't want to admit it. Number two is your friends. People say “ you are who you hang out with,” and that’s the gospel truth! No matter how much you might say “ I’m my own person and no one can impact me,” if you hang out with someone long enough you will begin to act, talk, and think like that person. Number three is Teachers. Now yes I know it’s a little crazy to think that teachers have that big of an impact on your life, but they really do! On average you spend fifteen percent of your life at school. That is a lot of time with teachers.

Through my high school career I have come to have some very close relationships with my teachers. They have taught me many lesson. The most important lesson that I have been taught was from my AP STATS teacher. She would say, “ Life isn’t easy, you’ll have hard times, sad times, and happy times, but they make you who you are today and who you will be in the future. So just roll with life! Don't stress because life's too short to worry, just enjoy it.” She lived her life to this quote. In class we would learn by playing games, doing projects together, and by just having fun! There were serious times where we would have to have lectures, tests, quizzes, and other things but she always made sure we didn't get bored.

She was also more than just a teacher to our class. She was our friend. Our class was called the AP STATS family or #greyteam (yes gray is spelled with and e, because in AP STATS you can change the graph to make it look however you want, so we made gray look how we want. Also we were called #greyteam because there are many gray areas in AP Statistics.) We all went to Mrs.Villines when we had problems at home, school, or with friends. We won our school float contest in our Pep Rally Parade. We bought each other gifts for birthdays. We had Christmas together! We all bought presents and we sat around our class Christmas tree and opened them. We had a Christmas dinner, Mrs. Villines went prom dress shopping with the girls in the class, and when she found out she was pregnant we were the first people to know. When she told us we all started crying and gave her a huge group hug.

I will always remember Mrs. Villines. She has taught me so much! She has not only taught me about AP STATS and z-scores but she has taught me how to be a better person! She’s taught me to respect other people, to not worry too much because worrying won’t help at all, to live life to the fullest, to change things if I want them changed, that the world won't get better with me just sitting here talking about it but if I want the world to change than I have to do something.
