Sharing Stories by Abigayle - April 2024 Scholarship Essay

In 5th Grade, our class attended community outreach program Junior Achievement. Though it wasn’t my first choice, I was assigned TV personality. Fast forward 7 years and I still find myself enjoying an audience and telling stories. From performing Elsa in “Frozen”, Senior Class President of 500 peers, Spirit leader at games or introducing commercials on the radio I thrive on the pressures and moments to connect. Interviewing for our TV/Radio program WJHI brings me the greatest joy and passion to meet people, inform others about all the goings on in our city or calling a varsity sport.
Knowing I have a path to take this to the next level in college and career, I’m kept on track with a goal in mind surrounding myself with mentors like my coach, journalism teacher and shadows at our local TV station. To come full circle, I was invited to speak of the impact Junior Achievement gave me at their Hall of Fame Event and then their National Conference. Like so many times, with jittery nerves, flubbing my words and hopes of not falling on the way up - I will get the chance to appear front and center to share a story and easily feel right at home.
