It's All About Cooking by Abigail - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

Remember that time that your mom let you make your first meal by yourself? The first thing that I ever made by myself was pancakes for breakfast. I talked my mom into letting me make my own pancakes for breakfast one morning. I did everything from start to finish. They were the best pancakes that I had ever tasted. My love for Culinary began on that day. I had always helped in the kitchen with my mom and my grandma. They taught me all the basics of cooking. Over the years I just developed a love for being in the kitchen.
I have been accepted to College of the Ozarks to major in Culinary Arts. I'm excited about my future and what I will be able to accomplish in my future. College of the Ozarks has a distinguished Culinary Arts program. They have a working restaurant on campus that allows you to have real world experience while attending school. They also utilize a student work program that helps to instill good work ethic and values.
My future plans include possibly owning my own restaurant, working as a personal chef or owning my own gourmet food truck. I would like to own my own restaurant because I would be able to create healthy and tasty meals for my customers. I appreciate getting to make meals for others and feel that I would love being able to do this on a bigger scale. I also think I'd like to be a personal chef for families because it would allow me to connect to people in a more personal way. I would like to learn what families like to eat and maybe introduce them to new foods and tastes. I also feel like this would allow me to have my own garden to grow things in and feel that this would give me that opportunity to use the things that I would grow. A food truck is a third possibility that I have considered. I do like to travel and feel that owning a food truck would allow me to travel some and still make a living.
Culinary skills have always been something that I have enjoyed developing. I am excited about what I will learn while in college and how I will be able to use that once I've graduated. I am following my dreams and I can't wait to see where my love of cooking will take me.
