The Undeniable Truth of Productivity Hours by Abigail - January 2019 Scholarship Essay

There’s the one that I am--and one that I aspire to be.
I’ve tried both sides of the spectrum.
I’ve tried the early “rise n’ grind,” with the beautiful and fresh morning sunshine, where breathing in the crisp air reminds me of why I should always get up at this time.
And then I’ve tried the late-night-activity-doing that doesn’t even require me to try, it just happens this way. This is when I finally realized that I’m a true night owl since if given the choice, I would rather stay up late and sleep in later.
It also makes sense why, here I am, writing this scholarship entry after midnight. I’ve finally accepted that I am a night owl and that’s when I’m the most productive. I tend to push things off until later at night and then proceed to pile through them. It does feel quieter at this time because mostly everyone is sleeping (except the other night owls in the world, like myself), which provides me with a sense of focus and concentration. I think it also helps that I can go to sleep feeling satisfied and knowing that I was recently spending my time working on tasks. I prefer to use the daytime as relaxation and reflection, since I’m not able to focus as well. I also believe that being a college student has played a role in being a night owl--since I am in classes during the day; most of my studies are done at night.
Either way, the morning people and night owls are all people just trying to be their most productive selves. We all have habits we tend to fall to, and we should listen to our bodies trying to tell us at what hour are our creative juices flowing the most.
