Beautiful Moments by Abigail - November 2018 Scholarship Essay
For my senior quote, I picked “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory” by Dr. Seuss. This quote relates to my life in many ways the hit home personally. Throughout my high school years, I’ve struggled with “what do you want to do with your life” question, truth be told I never really knew. I always just made something up to each person and called it a day. I did this because the thought of leaving these years, something so comfortable that has this homey feel to it, was terrifying for me.
In the early months of my freshman year of high school I moved four hours away from everything I knew in Mitchell, South Dakota to Jamestown, North Dakota. I feel as though looking back at it, that was the best thing for me, but my 14-year-old self didn’t like the idea very much. Back in South Dakota I lived in a very small town and went to a k-12 school that I went to since I was in pre-k, I had my set friends and my life was great. Then my dad graduated tech school for the second time and had a job at Ottertail Power Company in Jamestown before his May graduation. He started in early June, but the house buying process takes longer than we thought, so my mom, little brother, and I moved up there in October of 2015, and saying goodbye, but I’ll see ya later is closing of that chapter. I told you that story because that is where saving every moment because you never know when you are going to get yanked out of your “perfect life”.
Everyone talks about how they can’t wait until they can get out of high school, but I was never one of those people. I love my life and how it is right now, but I know that we grow up and it's time for me to leave the “nest” and start my new chapter. I know I’m not ready to let these moments become memories too awful quickly, but when they do I know they will be ones I’ll love forever.
