Mindset, Money, & Health Podcast - 'MentalVibe' by Abigail - August 2018 Scholarship Essay
My health, money, and mindset focused podcast titled 'MentalVibe,' is simply an extension of the blog that I co-created and write for, right now. However, on the podcast, we are able to dive much deeper into the topics as our thoughts are shared more conversationally. My co-host and I grew up very differently from one another and thus have a broad range of viewpoints to express to our listeners. Some days we bring on a guest who has a different background than us to gain new perspective and enhance the listening experience. On the podcast we discuss so many important aspects of life. Our main effort is to shed light on our own struggles and the lessons we've learned from them in order to help others live better lives.
On the podcast, most discussions circle back to the mindset topic which inspired the brand name 'MentalVibe.' As we share our stories and thoughts about money and health, mindset is always the concluding thought. The actor, Will Smith, said something absolutely wonderful about greatness. He said that "Greatness is not this ... elusive ... feature that only the special among us will ever taste ...it's something that truly exists in all of us." On the podcast we are always trying to instill this belief in our listeners. Every single one of us has the ability to be whatever and whoever we want. The question is, are we brave enough to believe in ourselves and actually make intentional moves towards our goals? On the podcast, we encourage our listeners to be confident and take deliberate steps towards what they want in life. And we reassure them that it ALL starts with their own thoughts.
The co-creator of 'MentalVibe' and my co-host on the podcast is well-educated on matters of personal finance. Through his knowledge, I have learned a great deal about my own missteps and how to remedy them in my mid-twenties. The listeners appreciate this topic greatly. We all know that money doesn't buy happiness. We hear this statement all the time. Unfortunately, with the countless famous celebrities ending their own lives as of late, there's no denying its validity. Money is not what brings us joy. However, it is also true that limiting our struggles and stresses caused by money can make living life easier. Having enough money to feel secure can genuinely reduce anxiety and depression. On the podcast we teach our listeners about how to budget and why investing is important. We discuss privilege and opportunity when it comes to wealth along with the polar opposite, financial limitations and poverty.
The topic I most passionately speak about on the podcast is health & fitness. I am a personal trainer and fitness coach. Taking control of your health is, I believe, the most effective way to start becoming a more successful person. If you can create healthy habits in the kitchen and your daily movement patterns, there's really nothing you can't do. Many very successful people are unhealthy and could be even more successful if they could just take the reins on this neglected aspect of their lives. Furthermore, being strong isn't just about physical resilience. On the podcast I tell our listeners that healthy habits include healthy food and hydration choices, regular exercise, proper sleep, meditation, journaling, budgeting and communicating. As human beings, health does not stop with our physical bodies, it encompasses our mental health as well.
This is where these seemingly broad topics all merge together to form our cohesive blog and podcast. Without the right mindset, we cannot be truly healthy. Without health, our money is useless as our lives are cut short. Without money we may feel less than, which affects our mindset. Without money we cannot maintain health with doctor’s visits and dental care. These three pillars of life all tie in together. As we host our weekly podcast we hope to inspire positive and permanent change in others while also teaching ourselves a thing or two along the way.
