A Difference One Step at a Time by Abigail - June 2013 Scholarship Essay
I want to make a difference. My grand master plan of making a difference does not just involve me going to college, but it also involves which college I go to. I have set my eyes on Oklahoma Christian University, regardless of the tornados that come through. In Oklahoma, I can do mission work to help those who have been devastated by the tornadoes, especially the most recent ones. I can take time to help at shelters and soup kitchens, and I can help anyone else who needs it.
I also want to be a music major. I want to become a high school choir teacher so I can make a difference in my students lives the way my choir teacher has impacted mine. In a classroom setting, I become their “guardian” and I have been entrusted with somebody else’s child or children. It is my responsibility to ensure classroom safety, create a fun learning environment, and teach them skills that they will need later on life, whether it be singing for their career or teaching them how to work through challenges.
Music is a love of mine and so instead of me worrying about teaching something I don’t understand or like, I can purely focus on my jobs as a teacher and mentor for students. I can do mission work through singing like providing entertainment and hanging out with children who are going through rough times.
Going to college means that I can help others, and I can work on growing my own character.
