Sharing a Meal With the Man Upstairs by Abby - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

Choosing just one historical figure to sit down and have dinner with is quit difficult. There are so many influential and wise historical figures, that would be able to give great insight to a young adult like myself. The more I pondered over which historical figure I would choose to have dinner with, the answer grew more evident. I would choose to have dinner with Jesus.

As a devote Catholic, being able to sit down and have dinner with Jesus would be the highlight of my 18 years on this planet. I have grown up in a family that goes to church almost every Sunday morning and I have grown to fall in love with my faith more and more everyday. From a young age, I was fascinated with the miracles that Jesus performed. He was able to heal the sick, feed the hungry, and save every single person from internal sin. His love has touched so many people and I would be honored to be in his presence.

I would be sure to choose a quiet place to have this dinner. This place would have to be quiet so that I am able to hear and savor every word he speaks. Listening to the advice he would give me, would carry me through the rest of my life. Being the Catholic that I am, I would love to be able to spread his word to all the people in my life. These worlds could inspire people to live to their fullest potential, to love to their fullest potential, and to give to their fullest potential. Jesus wants us to live to our fullest because he loves each and every one of us. He died on the cross for us.

The benefits of having dinner with such an important historical figure are immense. I would be overwhelmed with joy at the opportunity to meet the man that saved me. The wisdom and love that he would give, make my decision very easy. I would choose to have dinner with Jesus. Hopefully I would be able to convince him to stick around for dessert.
