"Super Omnia": The Best of All by Abby - November 2015 Scholarship Essay

I jump quickly out of my bed as my alarm clock rings at 5:45. I sleepily throw on my school uniform and manage to twist my hair into some sort of contusion that may be acceptable for a Thursday morning. I grab my iPad off my desk amongst the unfinished homework assignments and mound of college application packets, and quietly tip toe through the house, careful not to wake up any of my family. It is a chilly November morning, and I am headed to school an hour earlier than usual. What high school student would want to be at school earlier than they have to be? But this weekly appointment is important - just as important to my education as any Spanish class or your typical elective.

I hurry into room 112 where we are warmed by the heat of the school, and also the smell of Daylight Donuts. We set our stuff on the ground and grab one... or two. The teacher announces that we are about to start and we unzip our backpacks to get out our books. This is where my favorite part comes in; it's the books. They aren't just any normal books though, it's our journal and our Bible. You see, that's what I value most about my education at Cedar Creek. Not only are we educated on the curriculum that's required by the state, but we are given the opportunity to further strengthen our religion every Thursday morning. The education of Cedar Creek does not stop with the American History, Advanced Math and Biology. Sure, those things are super important and everything, but our school goes beyond the expectations of the norm to educate us with life lessons that we can use in our day to day lives once we enter a world that's not so nice as high school. Of course, my school is your typical scenery: get there at 7:55 dressed in your plaid, go to class, do you work and try not to be seen in the midst of all of the hustle and bustle of the day. But here's the difference: "Super Omnia": the best of all. That's Cedar Creek motto, and starting with Bible study, they live up to the educational and moral standards of "the best of all." My school goes beyond what is required to educate their students in moral perspectives and also scholar perspectives, and that is what I am most thankful for.
