The Desire to Learn by Abby - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

A Desire to Learn
Once one reaches an age of being able to comprehend the ways of life, they never stop learning. They continue on to kindergarten, elementary school, high school, and college. Despite what path of life they decide to take, they reach a constant stream of learning that never ends. Whether it’s learning mathematics in school or modern day technology, we spend every day of our life learning something new. As for me, I never plan on stopping my flow of learning, I have a desire to learn.
I have always had a life plan; go to college for pre medicine then go on to medical school and finally once I finish all my schooling, then I will be done learning. I realized that my plan was flawed. As a doctor, one never stops learning. They are always studying, reading up on the new medical advancements in their field or in other fields. They have to stay up to date on all the new medications and case studies so that they can offer their patients the best possible treatment. This is why my plan was flawed and why I am glad I will not follow my original plan. I want to be a doctor, but not only just an ordinary doctor, I want to be able to do everything I can for my patients and if that means continually learning for them, then that is what I will do.
My mother has always been a prime example of the desire to learn. As an endocrinologist, she is continually learning everyday. She reads research papers and case studies on a daily basis. When she is not at the hospital working, she is at the library learning. All the amount of time and work that she does in order to give her patients the best possible treatment is honorable. Her patients and coworkers notice her abundance of knowledge and commend it. As a doctor she is there to save lives and she takes that job very seriously by learning everything she can.
I plan on continually learning throughout my life not only for myself, but for my future patients. I want to be just like my mother and be able to offer patients the best possible treatment, statistics, and information. Going into the medical field is very difficult but if you are willing to be humble and have a desire to learn throughout the course of your life, then you will excel and that exactly what I want to do.
