Studying Abroad Can Change Your Life by Abby - March 2016 Scholarship Essay

“The world is a book and those who do not travel only read one page.” This quote from St. Augustine does a good job of explaining how travel is something that one could learn a lot from. Traveling can help a person grow into an independent thinker and help others adjust to changes. Along with becoming an independent thinker, college students would also gain self-confidence. Students will have to grow up a little faster than expected and they will have to learn to do things on their own.
When going to study abroad a student will find that challenging themselves will play a weekly part in their life. Challenging themselves isn’t a bad thing though. When they challenge themselves they not only become a braver person, but they will learn more about themselves. And when a challenge comes along the worst thing that could happen is that they fail and eventually they will find that failing isn’t all that bad.
A student could also gain a little power studying abroad. They gain the power to find out how far their limitations will extend, that is. But not only will they gain knowledge about themselves, they will learn about different the cultures, new holidays, a completely different weather schedule, and other cool things that have yet to be discovered by a college student.
Although adrenalin will become a part of their life when they first move, they will have learned, created scars, evolved, and lived. Learning that courage is overrated and growing up a little faster than expected a student will discover what they truly believe in. And no matter where the road takes them next, they will always have a tiny bit of themselves scattered among the places they have lived.
