Motivations and Aspirations by Aayush - April 2024 Scholarship Essay

“Here’s a gift. It’s from your cousins,” my dad says.

It was my 8th birthday, and I was shocked to be getting anything from my cousins. I quickly ripped open the wrapping and saw a box of snap circuits; my dad explained that the toy was a way to learn about electricity and technology. As the days went by, I became increasingly enthralled with snap circuits, spending every minute I could working on little errors to complete various levels and feeling great satisfaction when everything “clicked.”

In middle school, I discovered coding and was captivated by it. Knowing I could develop anything I imagined with hard work and trial and error felt revolutionary. It was why I loved snap circuits so much - it became why I loved computer science. After this, I did anything I could to get better at coding. In high school, I excelled in all available computer science classes, and at home, I started developing games with Unity, apps with Flutter, and websites with React. Through these stimulating projects I was able to keep my interest in computer science alive.

In college, I plan to continue developing computer science practical skills and expand my theoretical understanding. Recently, I started learning about artificial intelligence and have become invigorated by the endless possibilities of creating sentient technology.
