The Next Four by Aaryanna - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
Although some people may choose a different route for their lives, I believe that attending college is important. I was raised with the idea that I would eventually attend college after high school since I was a young child, but I did not understand the true significance of doing so until recently. Attending college allows for young people (or of any age) to dive into their interests and expand on subjects and aspects of life that they could base a life off of. College also allows students to make essential connections with people and organizations, both personal or professional. Exploring and eventually focusing their studies or seeking knowledge in a certain area prepares them for the next part of life.
During classes, with new peers, and in clubs and organizations, college offers a plethora of opportunities to “find yourself.” As cliche as it may sound, many students at this point in life have reached a point of maturity and self-awareness that allows them to figure out what they want in their future. With college being the center of their world during these years, students can experiment with their lifestyles and educational interests before deciding on an outlook for what is to come.
It is almost certain that students make connections in college that will remain a part of them for the rest of their lives. This can be anything from ties to a sorority, a best friend, a partner, a company contact, etc. Without all of these contacts, references, and acquaintances a lot of ease would be lost and perhaps even potential for collaborations.
For all students, and especially those who walk into college not knowing what they want to do with their lives, college is an essential tool for focusing in on what matters most to them and then obtaining the necessary knowledge and skill for the future they wish to pursue. Personally, I don’t even know what I want to study in college. I’m entering undeclared, and I know the institutions I have applied to will do a fabulous job in assisting me on my journey to discovering my passion, and guiding me in preparing for what is to come next.
