Teaching Teens for Tomorrow by Aaliyah - December 2019 Scholarship Essay
Teaching Teens for Tomorrow (or T3) is an organization that teaches teenagers how team-building skills, how to partake in interviews, how to fill out applications, and many more. The first 4 weeks were dedicated to classes and learning skills for finding and getting jobs, and the last weeks were dedicated to volunteer opportunities and helping places in the community like the veteran’s assisted living and the Boys and Girls Club. These volunteer options varied by week, depending on what facilities were needing help.
In the first weeks of the classes, our leaders made sure that we were always on track and focused during lessons. They had us get to know each other through team building activities. Over these weeks, we covered how to impress an employer with an interview, how to fill out an impressive resume, how to fill out an application, and how to create relationships with your coworkers. We also discussed our futures and how we should go about starting our career.
The last weeks of T3 are dedicated to helping the community. We, as a team, went to places like churches, an animal shelter, assisted living, small business around town, and the Boys and Girls Club. These weeks really showed us what different jobs there were to offer in our community and to support the businesses that needed help growing. This experience helped us all see more opportunities within the community and to help the community that does so much for us.
