Failure is Good by Aaliyah - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
I remember during my senior year how stressful things had become. I had waited until the last minute to take my SAT’s and ACT’s. That is when I came across my favorite teacher in high school, she gave me the courage and the faith to make it through my final year in high school successfully. I had taken the ACT and I didn’t get my desired score that I was looking for and I was upset about this. I had let this anger get the best of me. This is when my teacher shared her most important life lesson with me. The most important life lesson that I learned from my teacher is that “failure is good.”
My teacher had a very boastful personality. She wanted to see her students succeed, and she would do whatever it takes in order to help us to succeed. I remember coming into her class and she would have on very inspiring motivational videos to help keep us motivated. She helped us to understand that failure is good and from this life lesson I learned a lot. I learned that failure is good because, it gives you a chance to see what you did wrong and what you can improve on. Basically, failure helps you to realize where you stand as in learning your strengths and weaknesses. This was the memo that my teacher tried to express to all of her students.
While learning from this life lesson I prepped for my ACT test, and applied this life lesson to achieving a good composite score. I retook the test and passed with a composite score of 25 all thanks to the help of my teacher’s important life lesson. Eventually, all of her students passed with outstanding SAT and ACT scores and as word got around, she was one of the best test prep teachers at my high school. Even until this very day I apply this life lesson as I have failed numerous times at something in life. I have failed test in college, failed at being organized, and responsible. I taught myself how to study for a test, be organized, and responsible. However, when I do fail I always sit, think, and apply my teacher's life lesson to my life, that “failure is good.”
