Unified Dreamers by Aaden - May 2023 Scholarship Essay
America is a beautiful nation built upon the foundation of freedom, and fueled by the blessings of liberty. Our diverse population comes together to fulfill the dream of a better life, society, and community. However, our nation's current state does not reflect the hopeful spirit of unified dreamers. Polarization is becoming so extreme that it takes our government decades to address issues that degrade the fabric of our country. As division among us grows wider, the magic of our nation slips away. It has grown pervasive that many no longer believe the United States is for the people and by the people.
It is my dream to help solve this crisis by ushering in an era of civil discourse, mutual understanding, and compromise. Creating unity amongst our wonderfully diverse population is an ambitious undertaking, but America has accomplished similar achievements before, and we can certainly do it again. I aim to discover what elements have the innate ability to stimulate such societal development. I yearn to take on this ambition, as it is the very purpose of my life. Hence, the beginning of my journey will be rooted in pursuing political science as an undergraduate major.
Amidst this subject’s inherently philosophical nature, it is logical. That seemingly contradictory dichotomy is absolutely fascinating to me. No topic rooted in natural science, mathematics, or engineering has this vast gray area making up the very foundation of its core. Social sciences, especially government and politics, are entirely human-made concepts that don't naturally exist in our world. It’s a hallmark of human existence and a representation of humanity’s character.
Furthermore, politics plays a key role in every citizen’s life, meaning that it has the potential to help a massive population of people. With the ability to help people, government runs the risk of placing the citizens it is intended to serve in distress. Studying politics is so important because knowledge enhances the quality of new leaders, and those new leaders determine the fluidity and prosperity of tomorrow.
My dream to influence a future of better union is permanently ingrained in me. I will create positive change in our world or I will die trying. This is a mission statement that I sincerely declare. My unrelenting commitment to supporting others through public service is what I have to offer, but I cannot accomplish my dream alone. Continuous education and networking with like-minded peers are necessary; the university environment is the perfect place to do both.
Funding my education is my biggest obstacle because my family is not able to provide more than the most basic level of assistance. The privilege of being awarded scholarships would allow me to participate in the classes and experiences that are critical to my development. I cannot establish a life dedicated to giving back to others without continuing my education, so I am humbly requesting aid to achieve my dream.
