Are Leadership Skills Required For College? by Aa'Lexcia - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

In addition to focusing on my studies full time, I am also involved in a number of school and community activities. These activities include Junior Beta Club and Future Business Leaders of America organizations at my school, and have also volunteered with local nursing homes during school breaks. During the summer, at my local church, Calvary Hill Baptist Church, I was a mentor in our Youth Transition Ministry and an instructor for the preschool ages. Also, I have an opportunity to learn Business and Communication skills as a Tax Preparer intern.

My past experiences have enhanced my abilities to lead and learn. In order to become an effective leader, one must first learn how to lead. Self-Discipline plays an important role in leadership. I must acquire self-discipline within myself to become a competent leader. Time management and prioritizing in high school will be beneficial to furthering my education. The leadership skills I have acquired thus far will benefit my college success greatly. I feel that these skills are essential to any active college student. These skills also prepare you for the real world and job opportunities. Obtaining these skills at such a young age has really benefited me. These skills that I have been taught will never be forgotten.
