I am a graduate of the University of Chicago, with a bachelor's degree in psychology and linguistics. Currently, I am pursuing a master's degree in speech-language pathology at Teachers College, Columbia University. In the past, I have worked as a teacher's aide in a public school classroom, a mentor to middle school girls, an instructor and tutor at the literacy education organization 826, and a summer camp counselor. I tutor a diverse range of subjects, and I find that I especially enjoy tutoring language arts, reading, and writing at all levels, from elementary school all the way up to college/grad school test prep. As a tutor, I am committed to helping students reach their full potential as learners. Throughout my years as an educator, I have seen firsthand the remarkable academic growth that can occur when tutors provide students with the individualized support that they need. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, journaling, and learning about other languages and cultures.

I am a graduate of Princeton University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature with minors Theater and Creative Writing (and won both Princeton's Creative Writing Award and its Theater Award). I was fortunate enough to have been selected by Joyce Carol Oates as one of her two advisees. Under her guidance, I wrote my first novel. Since graduation, I have been pursuing a career as a freelance theater director and writer. I began tutoring because I am passionate about education and its profound ability to change and improve lives, and I love working with children. In my own experience, having a great tutor had an undeniable impact on my learning, my performance, and my future, and I want to pass on those same opportunities. I tutor children anywhere from elementary school to high school age and also have extensive experience teaching acting and writing. Outside of tutoring, I'm busy in the New York theater scene working regularly on Broadway and Off as well as developing my own work. In my spare time, I love photography, reading, seeing films, and traveling.

I am a recent Bachelor of Science from Cornell University, where my studies revolved around applying life science research to health and social studies. I have served as an undergraduate teaching assistant for several courses, and specializes in 1-on-1 tutoring for introductory biochemistry. Biochemistry is my favorite because of how many other disciplines it synthesizes. After achieving a 38 on the MCAT (99.1%), I began mentoring students on test preparation strategies.

I am a rising Sophomore at Princeton University. I am majoring in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, most likely with a minor in Computer Science. During my Junior and Senior years of High School, I tutored a few students on a regular basis. I specialize in Math and Science. More specifically, my strongest subjects are Algebra 1/2/3, Geometry, Trigonometry and ACT Science. I have always found the maths and sciences to be both the most interesting subjects, but also the most applicable to real world problems - this is why I chose to major in what I did. Because I usually tutor in Math, I often tutor in the style of showing how to do a few problems step by step, and then having the student try a few more difficult problems, asking questions along the way. I do this because in my experience, this is the best way to learn and prepare for Math related exams. Outside of academics I play Viola, enjoy running and exercising to stay healthy, and listening to all kinds of music.

I am a Yale University graduate with over seven years of tutoring experience with children and adults of all ages, specializing in writing, reading, English, college prep, and working with differently-abled learners. As a writer and entrepreneur, I have tutored since high school because it is something I truly enjoy. I approach tutoring with patience, and with finding a motivation to learn and excel that is specific to each student. With young adults and older learners, I approach each skill with purpose in reaching their individual goals and dreams, and with younger learners it is all personalize-practice-reward, working with parents and mentors to understand their needs and facilitate their individual learning and success. I'd love to hear from you and discuss how we can make the most out of our time together!

I am a current undergraduate student at Cornell University. I began tutoring 4 years ago because I am passionate about helping students become confident in their academic skills and reach their academic goals. Each session with a student consists of consistent, guided instruction that fosters independence and confidence in their skills. While I can instruct in many subjects, I love to tutor in math and English.

I am thrilled to be a part of this platform where we can work together to further our educational pursuits. Currently, I am a Teacher Resident at the NYU Accelerated MAT program in Secondary English Education. This means that come September, I will be an ELA teacher working at a NY Public School. My intentions here are to hone in on my individuated mentoring practice as well as to provide rigorous tutoring and support for all my students. The key here is not just learning the subject material, but learning to learn well. Discipline and Agency are foundational! I look forward to meeting you and starting our learning journey.

I am a rising junior at Princeton University pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy with a certificate in Statistics and Machine Learning. I am highly passionate about education: during the academic year, I serve as a volunteer tutor for the Petey Greene Program, which provides educational assistance to those incarcerated in New Jersey prisons; after graduation, I hope to work toward becoming a high school mathematics teacher. This summer, I am interning part-time at IntegrateNYC4me, a nonprofit that seeks to integrate New York schools. I believe that quality educational opportunities should be accessible to all, and I hope to dedicate my career toward realizing this vision!

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students throughout Syracuse and the surrounding area, regardless of which of the 8 school districts they attend. Whether your student is in the Syracuse City School District, Fayetteville-Manlius, East Syracuse-Minoa, or another local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands the specific curriculum and standards they're working with.
Syracuse students frequently seek help with math, English/ELA, and standardized test prep—particularly as they prepare for Regents exams, which are a key part of New York's graduation requirements. We also work with students on science, history, and foreign languages, as well as executive function and study skills to help them manage coursework across their school district's curriculum.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to focus on the specific Regents standards and exam formats your student finds most challenging, whether that's Algebra I, Living Environment, Global History, or English Language Arts. With targeted practice and feedback, students can build confidence and mastery of the content and test-taking strategies they need to perform well.
The first session is an opportunity for the tutor and student to get to know each other and identify specific learning goals. The tutor will assess your student's current understanding, discuss any challenges they're facing in their classes, and create a personalized plan that aligns with their school's curriculum and their academic needs.
With Syracuse's average student-teacher ratio of 12.6:1 in classrooms, individual students can sometimes get lost in the mix. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring means your student gets undivided attention, instruction paced to their learning style, and the ability to ask questions without worrying about falling behind or slowing down the class. This focused approach helps students build deeper understanding and confidence faster.
Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions. We work with families to find a tutoring plan that fits their budget and their student's needs. Contact us for a personalized quote and to discuss flexible scheduling options that work for your family.
We consider your student's specific subjects, learning style, academic goals, and personality when connecting them with a tutor. Tutors working with Varsity Tutors are experienced professionals who understand New York's curriculum standards and can adapt their teaching to help your student succeed in their particular school district and courses.
Many Syracuse students work with multiple tutors across different subjects, or with a single tutor who specializes in multiple areas. We can help you create a tutoring plan that addresses all of your student's academic needs, whether that's balancing Regents prep, homework help, and standardized testing, or focusing on one area of challenge.
