I was born and raised in Westwood, MA, a suburb of Boston and have lived in the area ever since. I attended Boston College as a Biology/ Pre-med major, but also studied Russian Culture and Literature. After working in a lab in Boston for several years studying the molecular mechanisms of cancer, I decided to further my education in graduate school, exploring a new scientific direction. I recently completed my Ph.D. studies in Neuroscience at The University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. My thesis investigated the neural circuitry and neurotransmitter systems underlying food-reward learning using fruit flies. While trained in neurobiology and genetics, I've always had a passion for everything science, from all aspects of biology to chemistry and even theoretical physics and cosmology. I've also always been fascinated in history, from ancient civilizations to European history through modern day U.S. History.I've tutored students across a range of ages and experience. I've mentored several local high school students in their science projects, two of which went on to win awards at the regional competition. I mentored a group of first-year graduate students in the UMass Biomedical Sciences Curriculum. In lab, I've instructed and mentored many incoming lab mates from undergraduate technicians to post doctoral fellows. When I'm not in the lab, I can usually be found playing guitar and songwriting with my band, listening to new music, hitting the slopes on my snowboard or just spending a night in cooking interesting new dishes or baking bread. My goal is to always engage my students on their level and get them as excited about the subject matter as I am. I believe its my own thirst for knowledge and the drive to always know more about what interests me that makes me a highly effective tutor.

I am committed to making tutoring fun and beneficial for all my students. I graduated magna cum laude from my high school as salutatorian in 2018, with distinction from Duke University with a B.S. in neuroscience in 2022 and am an incoming graduate student at Columbia University. Although each of my academic experiences posed different challenges, one thing made me successful at each stage- my zeal for learning. In my experience as a tutor and in my future endeavors, I want to impart this excitement for learning to each of my students. In tutoring sessions, I introduce topics in fun and engaging ways while thoroughly teaching key concepts and important skills. I then give students the opportunity to personally engage with the material by exploring and problem-solving. I adapt my approaches for each students' particular learning style, strengths, and weaknesses to make them excel in their desired subjects and excited about learning.

My philosophy as an educator is that every child can learn. I believe that often in education children are given up on if they cannot grasp a concept when in fact it is the education system that is failing the child. Every child has their own way of learning, and as an educator, it is my mission to make sure that every child achieves his/her goals.I am originally from Orlando, FL but relocated to Massachusetts a little over a year ago. I went to the University of Central Florida where I obtained my Bachelors in Elementary Education. I have six years experience in education and five years experience as a tutor. I love spending time outdoors with my family and watching sporting events.

I am currently at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a bachelor degree in petroleum engineering. Since January 2016, I have been tutoring Math and Physics at my current college. These two subjects are my favorites because I am proficient. My tutoring style consists in having my students complete some practice problems that encompass the concepts they do not understand in order to identify their needs and help them master what could not before. My interests outside of academia consist in playing soccer and swimming. Also, I like to watch documentaries and movies, to read books, and to go for a walk in my neighborhood.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects students across New Rochelle's 18 schools and the New Rochelle City School District. With nearly 10,000 students in the district, we work with learners at every grade level—from elementary through high school—helping them succeed with personalized 1-on-1 instruction tailored to their specific needs and their school's curriculum.
Tutors who work with Varsity Tutors are familiar with New York's learning standards and assessments, including Regents exams, state math and ELA benchmarks, and grade-level expectations. Personalized instruction helps students master concepts at their own pace, filling gaps that may exist in a traditional classroom setting and building the foundational skills needed to perform well on state assessments.
Yes. New Rochelle's average student-teacher ratio of 13.1:1 is reasonable, but individual students still benefit from one-on-one attention. When a student needs extra support in a specific subject or learns differently than the classroom pace allows, personalized tutoring provides the focused instruction that helps concepts click—something that's difficult to achieve in a group setting.
The first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's learning style, current level, and specific goals. Whether your child needs help with algebra, test prep, reading comprehension, or any other subject, the tutor will assess where they stand and create a personalized plan for progress. Most families see this as a chance to ask questions and ensure the fit is right.
Absolutely. While many New Rochelle students seek help with math, English, and test preparation, tutors also support learners in science, history, foreign languages, writing, and more. Whether your student needs help keeping up with their current coursework or wants to explore a subject more deeply, personalized instruction can be tailored to those goals.
It depends on the test and your student's starting point. For standardized tests like the SAT or ACT, most students benefit from 8-12 weeks of consistent tutoring, meeting 1-2 times per week. For Regents exams or classroom tests, a shorter timeline of 4-6 weeks is often effective. Your tutor will discuss a realistic timeline based on your student's needs and goals during your first session.
Tutoring costs vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and your student's needs. Varsity Tutors works with families to find options that fit different budgets, and many tutors offer flexible scheduling to make personalized instruction accessible. During your initial conversation, you'll learn about pricing and can discuss what works best for your family.
Simply reach out to Varsity Tutors with information about your student's grade, subject, and goals. We'll match them with a qualified tutor who understands their needs and can provide personalized instruction. Most families can get connected with a tutor and schedule a first session within a few days.
