Scoring a 36 composite on the ACT, Vansh treats the Math section as a speed-and-strategy challenge as much as a content test. He identifies which of the 60 questions are disguised algebra, which are coordinate geometry, and which are trigonometry traps — then teaches the shortcuts that keep pacing on track without sacrificing accuracy.

I am graduated from Penn State University in Industrial Engineering in 2017. I've tutored ever since I was in high school, and I love helping people! I like to help my students understand math (and other topics) instead of just doing it blindly. My goal is to help my students improve their math (and other topics) and build skills that will help them find learning easier in the future! Fun fact, I used to work for Disney and I like to salsa dance!
Scoring a 35 ACT composite required Harrison to move through the Math section's 60 questions efficiently, from basic pre-algebra through trigonometry and matrices. He teaches students to triage by difficulty, locking in quick points on coordinate geometry and linear equations before spending time on the harder logarithm and conic-section problems at the end.
I am a UCF graduate Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA! I graduated with a degree in Health Sciences Pre-Clinical. I am currently in the middle of applying to medical school. I am here to help and have previous tutor experience! I was a Supplemental Instruction leader at UCF, where I instructed students on General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Although I primarily have tutored at the collegiate level, I feel comfortable teaching at both undergraduate and primary school levels. I feel more comfortable in STEM courses but can tutor English and ACT Reading as well.
I am a sophomore at the Georgia Institute of Technology and am working towards a major in Computer Engineering. I have been tutoring students of all ages and backgrounds in various math topics ranging from elementary school math to AP Calculus throughout high school. I love teaching math and always find it amazing to watch my students grow and improve in their mathematical abilities. While helping students with standardized testing, we go through several tricks and tactics that have helped my students succeed and have fun in the process. I am also well versed in Physics and have spent 3 years taking the highest levels of physics courses. I love playing all sports (especially soccer) and enjoy playing the guitar in my free time as well.
Most ACT Math questions reward students who can identify the shortest path to an answer — and Michael, who studies both global studies and fine arts while holding a 36 ACT composite, brings an unconventional problem-solving lens that cuts through overly procedural thinking. He's especially effective at teaching the mental shortcuts for the coordinate geometry and matrix questions in the back third of the section, where creative reasoning often beats brute-force calculation. Rated 4.9 by students.
Scoring a 35 ACT composite means Priya knows the math section's rhythm — which algebra and geometry concepts appear most often, where the time traps are, and how to recognize when a problem is simpler than it looks. She teaches students to spot the fastest path to an answer on coordinate geometry and trigonometry questions, the two areas where most points are quietly lost.
The ACT Math section throws 60 questions across algebra, coordinate geometry, and trigonometry in just 60 minutes, so pacing matters as much as knowledge. Parker earned a 36 composite and approaches the math section by teaching students which problems to solve algebraically, which to back-solve, and which to sketch — saving time where it counts most.
I am no longer by their side. I seldom have students rely on "tricks"; instead, students will learn the underlying reasoning so that they can extend their solving methods to new related problem types. I look forward to applying my years of tutoring and teaching experience to help many motivated students.
I'm Veena and I recently graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S. in Microbiology and Immunology with Chemistry and English Literature as my minors. I've tutored at a Math and Reading learning center in high school and became an employee of the Academic Resource Center at UM where I tutored my peers in STEM subjects. I was an assistant science teacher at a middle school for a year, and a workshop leader for chemistry classes at UM.
I am currently studying at St. John’s College for my Bachelor of Arts in the Liberal Arts. St. John’s curriculum follows the Great Books Program which relies on primary sources instead of textbooks. During my time at St. John’s, I have volunteered as a tutor working with middle school students, focusing on Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. I have also tutored students in US history, Government, and World Religions. I have enjoyed tutoring English and Literature the most as I find it very rewarding to help students find material that they not only enjoy, but connect to and use to understand their own lives. In this age, technology has made information freely available to everyone. I think that it is extremely important to teach students how to find, processes and critically reflect on this wealth of resources. I find that it is equally important to nurture a student’s curiosity by demonstrating how lessons taught in the classroom can be applied to their unique passion. My own passions include writing, reading anything from philosophy to comic books, and playing video games.

Frequently Asked Questions
Score improvement depends on your starting point and commitment level, but most students see meaningful gains within 8-12 weeks of consistent practice. Students who work with a tutor typically improve 2-4 points on the ACT Math section by focusing on weak areas, learning test-specific strategies, and building confidence through targeted practice. Your personalized tutoring plan will identify exactly where you're losing points—whether it's algebra, geometry, or pacing—so improvement can be tracked and accelerated.
Time management is one of the most common challenges on ACT Math, and it's absolutely learnable. Expert tutors help you develop pacing strategies like identifying which question types to tackle first, knowing when to skip difficult problems, and practicing under timed conditions to build speed without sacrificing accuracy. With focused practice and strategic approaches tailored to your strengths, you can complete more questions confidently within the 60-minute window.
The best way is to take a full practice test under timed conditions, then analyze your results by topic—algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and data interpretation. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who specialize in ACT Math and can review your practice tests to pinpoint exactly where you're struggling, whether it's conceptual gaps or test-taking strategy issues. Once weak areas are identified, your personalized instruction can focus on those specific topics so your study time is efficient and effective.
Most students benefit from taking 4-6 full practice tests spaced throughout their study period, with at least one taken under strict timed conditions to simulate test day. Beyond full tests, targeted practice on specific question types and topics is equally important—quality practice beats quantity. Your tutor can recommend a personalized practice schedule based on your timeline and current performance level, ensuring you're building both content knowledge and test-taking stamina.
Test anxiety often stems from feeling unprepared or uncertain about strategies, both of which improve dramatically with focused tutoring and practice. Expert tutors help you build confidence by mastering content, learning reliable problem-solving approaches, and practicing under realistic test conditions so test day feels familiar rather than scary. Developing a pre-test routine and knowing exactly how you'll approach different question types can significantly reduce anxiety and help you perform closer to your practice level.
Yes—ACT Math questions test the same concepts but often require different problem-solving approaches and faster pacing than classroom math. The test emphasizes efficiency and strategic thinking, with questions designed to reward students who know when to use shortcuts, when to plug in numbers, and how to eliminate wrong answers quickly. Tutors who specialize in ACT Math teach you these test-specific strategies alongside content review, so you're not just solving math problems—you're solving them the ACT way.
Most students benefit from 8-12 weeks of consistent preparation, dedicating 3-5 hours per week to ACT Math specifically. Your ideal timeline depends on your starting score, target score, and test date—someone aiming to improve from a 24 to a 28 needs different preparation than someone targeting a 32+. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who can create a customized study plan based on your goals and timeline, ensuring you're prepared without burning out before test day.
Your first session typically involves a diagnostic assessment—reviewing your practice test results, identifying content gaps and pacing issues, and understanding your target score and timeline. The tutor will explain their approach, answer your questions about ACT Math strategies, and establish a personalized plan focused on your biggest opportunities for improvement. You'll leave with clarity on exactly what to focus on and how tutoring will help you reach your goal.
