The Big Game
Max plays on a summer baseball team. The team’s name is The Dragons and the team wears bright green jerseys to each of their games. So far this season, The Dragons have won every game that they have played. They have one game left, the championship game. The winner of the championship game gets a giant trophy and a big pizza party after the game.
On the morning of the championship game Max woke up early, too excited to sleep! From his room he could smell bacon and pancakes, so he rushed to the kitchen. His mom had woken up early and cooked a breakfast for a champion! After his belly was full and he had put on his bright green uniform, Max and his family drove to the ballpark for his final baseball game.
The game started out slow, the score was still

Of the answer choices, which happened first?
Max woke up

Because we want to know which event happened first, we want to start at the beginning of the story.
We do learn in the first paragraph that the winning team gets a pizza party, but that's not when we are told that Max's team went to a pizza party, so that is not the correct answer.
The last paragraph of the story is when we learn that Max's team won the baseball game, so that is not the correct answer.
In the second paragraph we learn that Max wakes up and then eats breakfast. Because we want to know what he did first, "Max woke up" is the correct answer.

Because we are looking for the first thing we learn about Max, we want to start at the beginning of the passage. The first sentence tells us that Max plays on a baseball team. We later learn the name of his team, that his team has won all of their games, and that Max hit a home run during his last baseball game.
The correct answer is "he plays on a baseball team".
