Example Questions
Example Question #1 : Writing
Looking at the image provided, select the word that would complete the graphic organizer.
Swim
Dance
Ball
Eat
Ball
The graphic organizer provided is about soccer. We know this because "soccer" is in the middle of the graphic organizer. The other words provided, "goal", "field", and "score", are all words that are related to playing soccer. When you are playing soccer, you score, you play on a field, and there is a goal.
Of our answer choices, "ball" fits the best in the graphic organizer because you need a ball in order to play soccer. You do not swim while playing soccer, nor do you eat or dance.
Example Question #2 : Writing
Select the group of words that would be best used to describe the sun.
round, bright, hot
round, soft, cold
close, bright, soft
bright, small, round
round, bright, hot
Let's think about what we know about the sun. It's in our solar system, which is very far away. When we look up into the skye during the day, we can normally see the sun, and it's a circle, which means it's round. Also, the sun produces heat so it's very warm. Because of these details, the best answer is the group of words that contain "round", "bright", and "hot"".
Example Question #3 : Writing
Select the group of words that would be best used to describe a sweater.
cold, hard, soft
warm, hard, thin
warm, soft, comfortable
tight, hard, cold
warm, soft, comfortable
Let's think about what we know about sweaters. We usually wear them when it's cold outside to keep up warm and most of the clothes that we wear are soft and comfortable. Why would we wear something that wasn't comfortable? Because of these details, the best answer is the group of words that contain "warm", "soft", and "comfortable".
Example Question #4 : Writing
Looking at the sentence provided, select the word that could replace the underlined word.
Seeing my older sister get off of the school bus made me so happy because I could not wait to play with her.
hungry
excited
sad
tired
excited
We are looking for a word to replace "happy" so we want to look for a word that has the same, or close to the same, meaning. "Hungry", "tired", and "sad" do not mean the same thing as "happy" and these words do not make sense in our sentence. The best replacement for the word "happy" is "excited" because they are close to meaning the same thing.
