Arne Duncan On The Future Of American Education

Education Secretary Arne Duncan was featured yesterday on CNN's Fixing America's Schools.

You can view the two video clips here. You can skip to the three-minute mark of both clips to hear Duncan's talking points.

The setting was a town hall meeting at an Atlanta high school, and Duncan touched on issues ranging from education loans, tuition tax credits, and the FAFSA form. A few points of note:

* Income-based loan repayments

* Duncan touts junior colleges, for-profit universities as viable alternatives to traditional 4-year college

* Assessing "growth" and "gain" instead of simply meeting a benchmark.

Being a town hall setting, it was naturally long on promises and short on operational details.  Nevertheless, interesting to hear what the "Head of Ed." had to say.

What are your thoughts on the future of American education?
