ACT Compass Flashcards
The ACT Compass is an exam that colleges and educational institutions use to evaluate students’ academic skills in several different subjects in order to determine the best course level for the student. The ACT Compass exam allows educators to evaluate students in several subjects, including mathematics, reading, English as a Second Language, and two different writing exams that measure different things: writing essay and writing skills.
Although these tests are not timed and do not count for specific grades that affect a student’s grade point average, many students feel that these tests can be a bit intimidating, and seek study aids to use in order to prepare. Varsity Tutors’ Learning Tools, including Flashcards, Practice Tests, and Questions of the Day, are tools that are available to students who feel they need to practice before test day. The flashcards from Varsity Tutors' Learning Tools are available for the ACT Compass Reading test and ACT Compass Writing tests.
The ACT Compass Writing Skills test gives administrators an opportunity to examine students’ knowledge in eight areas, including usage, capitalization, verb agreement, construction shifts, organization, word usage, punctuation, and even spelling. The essay writing exam, called e-write, provides a passage and two points of view, and asks students to examine that passage. They are also asked to give their opinions on the issue described in the passage.
There are two ACT Compass tests in reading. One examines reading comprehension skills over different types of passages, including social and natural sciences, humanities, prose fiction, and practical reading; the second reading exam is a reading diagnostics test, which gives educators a tool to judge student skills to develop a reader profile, or to explore their vocabulary, as well as reading comprehension skills.
Varsity Tutors’ Learning Tools offer writing and reading flashcards to help you prepare for those specific exams, and maybe even make the preparation for the test enjoyable. Because these are available online, you can move through each set of cards at your own pace as you prepare for ACT Compass placement exams. They’re simple to use and a great option if you find that you want to study but are short on time and can’t sit down to complete an entire practice test at the moment.
Each Learning Tools Flashcard poses a multiple choice question, with as many as five potential answers. As you answer each question posed by the flashcards, you’ll get instant feedback, including explanation of why the correct answer is the correct answer.
These flashcards are a simple way to prepare for an ACT Compass exam, hopefully in a low-stress way. Learning Tools Flashcards allow users to choose an answer, then either return to the question they just tried to answer, or move on to the next flashcard, without penalty, even if they originally choose the wrong answer.
In addition to the flashcards, Varsity Tutors offers other Learning Tools to help you prepare for your ACT Compass exam, including a Question of the Day series and Practice Tests.
