I am a graduate of St. Leo University. I received my B.A and M.S. degrees in Criminal Justice. I also obtained my associate degree from Berean Institute. I majored in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. I am a PhD candidate at Walden University with a major in Public Policy with an emphasis in Criminal Justice. Besides my education, I was a substitute teacher for grades Pre- K through high school, in Chesapeake Virginia. I also did some traveling to the U.S. Virgin Islands where I taught SAT Prep Math to 9-12, GED Prep classes to male inmates as well as taught basic Belly dancing. I also tutored private clients in high school and remedial college courses. I am most passionate about seeing students' excitement when improving on reading, math, English as well as writing. I also am passionate about doing Storytime, when I am online. To get responses from listeners wanting to know when I will do another one is really exciting. This sets a perfect foundation for a lifelong learner. I have many hobbies that I am passionate about and share with others. I am a gardener who studies and grows different herbs and vegetables, that I use in making jams, salsa, salves, natural remedies, and juices. I have studied and do a variety of dances. I used to be a former Zumba Instructor. I am a belly dancer as well as dance with two Caribbean dance troupes in Virginia and the Virgin Islands. My students and I have fun while studying subjects that have been a challenge. Suggesting a variety of ways to teach is the key. It also teaches them to have a better education necessary for an improved quality of life. I also understand and appreciate different learning methods, in person or online, because I was a student who experienced both. In my spare time, I'm a writer in which I wrote and published five books, I enjoy reading, traveling, dancing, gardening, researching diverse ways of natural living, cooking, and doing crafts. I also am an avid stargazer who enjoys exploring the Universe.

My teaching philosophy emphasizes not only retaining information but grasping it at a fundamental level for practical, everyday application. With over 20 years of coaching experience, my journey began as an Assistant Football Coach and Strength and Conditioning Coach at two universities. I transitioned to a role as a training and manager at various health clubs, bringing a wealth of hands-on experience to my instructional approach. Additionally, I've had the privilege of teaching in continuing education at a local community college. A graduate of Methodist University with a BS in Sports Management and a minor in business, I furthered my education with a Master of Arts in Religion and a concentration in Mental Health Counseling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA. Currently serving as a tutor for personal training certification exams and a range of subjects, including high school English, business, marketing, basic computer skills, religion, exercise physiology, and video editing. I take pride in being the first lead instructor of a National Academy of Sports Medicine preparation course at the community college level, achieving a pass rate of 100% for three consecutive years and maintaining a pass rate of over 90% thereafter. Having left instruction to establish my fitness facility, I continue to work with interns, blending my passion for teaching with hands-on experience. I am a university and high school science teacher, specializing in public health, fitness, and biology. I hold undergraduate degrees in Biology (B.S.) and Anthropology (B.A.) and my CPT certification through NASM. While I have been tutoring a wide range of subjects for over twenty years, I most enjoy teaching any subject involving the human body. I have always been amazed with its design, and I love sharing this enthusiasm with students! I believe that learning is a lifelong process and it's critical that we can all learn strategies and methods to best succeed and thereby continue discovering who we are as we study throughout life. I hold many professional certifications and have completed over ten years of graduate education and specializations after college, including my NASM personal training certification. One of my favorite endeavors is teaching this to others through a national Personal Training certification course on the college level (W.I.T.S.). I have vast experiences working with many common issues and struggles, and I love working in partnership to find "the key" for each student to optimize success. For this reason, I am very committed to teaching concepts in a variety of ways, especially focusing on analogies using everyday life experiences and visual images. I also firmly believe in keeping relationship- and confidence-building central to our partnership. I always strive to create an environment where the student feels comfortable to openly share their goals and struggles. In my free time, I love to run, swim, and read.

I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Frequently Asked Questions

NASM builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills that apply across academics and careers. A strong foundation in NASM opens doors to advanced coursework and prepares students for standardized tests.

Many students find that success in NASM boosts their confidence in related subjects too.

Common challenges include gaps from earlier material, difficulty with specific concepts, and trouble applying what's learned to new problems. These issues compound quickly in NASM because topics build on each other.

A tutor identifies exactly where you're stuck, fills in gaps, and gives you targeted practice until the concepts click. That 1-on-1 attention makes a big difference.

Look for someone with strong NASM knowledge who can explain concepts in multiple ways until you understand. Patience and the ability to adapt to your learning style matter as much as expertise.

Varsity Tutors vets all tutors through background checks, credential review, and teaching evaluation—so you can focus on finding the right personality and teaching approach fit.

For students who are struggling, stuck, or want to excel, tutoring often pays off in better grades, stronger test scores, and reduced stress. The 1-on-1 format lets you move at your own pace and focus on what you actually need.

Many students also develop better study habits that serve them in other subjects.

Most students benefit from 1-2 sessions per week. If you're significantly behind or have a major exam coming up, more frequent sessions can help you catch up faster.

Your tutor can recommend a schedule based on your goals and timeline.

Yes—both are core parts of tutoring. Tutors help you work through challenging homework problems while teaching the underlying concepts, so you're not just getting answers but actually learning.

For exams, tutors provide targeted review, practice problems, and test-taking strategies specific to NASM.

Tutoring is typically purchased in hour packages, with rates varying by tutor experience and subject complexity. Varsity Tutors offers several package options.

You can discuss pricing during your consultation to find an option that fits your budget and goals.

Your tutor will assess where you are, discuss your goals, and start working on areas where you need the most help. Many students bring current homework or upcoming test material to focus on.

By the end of the session, you'll have a plan for moving forward and a sense of how your tutor approaches teaching NASM.
