I am a highly motivated rising Sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill who is looking to help others realize their full potential. Currently, I'm working toward my Bachelors degree with a double major in Business and Public Policy. My senior year of High School I tutored students in various math subjects, and this past year, part of my work with the Big Brother Big Sister program has been working with a third-grader with her math, reading, and writing.I tutor math up through Algebra 2, as well as ACT Science, Reading, and Writing, SAT Critical Reading, and Elementary and Middle School reading and writing. My favorite subject to tutor is ACT prep, because I like to see students scores on practice exams, and the actual exams, improve as we work together. My favorite part about tutoring overall is working with students and getting to see their excitement when they realize they've figured out how to do something they previously didn't think they could.Outside of tutoring, I enjoy going to the gym and reading. I've played soccer since I was 4 years old, and I really enjoyed playing on an intramural soccer team during my freshman year. During the school year, I'm very involved with Student Government, the Roosevelt Institute, and the Big Brother Big Sister program.

I believe that every person can get better at their task if they put their mind to it. I am a fifth year teacher who has taught both social studies and language arts at the middle school level. I've tutored at the elementary and adult levels, as well. My goal as a tutor is to help and guide students where they need/want to be. I want to know that my students understand the subject or topic at hand. As a teacher already, I know how to make connections and meaning to the topic and can help guide others into understanding, as well. I am driven to helping others accomplish their goal no matter how many sessions it takes, because that is my job.

I have nine years of experience teaching in the bilingual classroom. I have taught three different grade levels: pre-K, first grade, and third grade. I have implemented two different bilingual programs, "Regular Bilingual Classroom" and "Two-Way Dual Language." I have worked with students who functioned below, on, and above grade level. I have been very successful at meeting diverse students' needs by facilitating different learning strategies, offering individualized support, encouraging critical thinking, and integrating a variety of resources.Teaching in a bilingual classroom is challenging and motivating for any educator. Bilingual students are in need of special care and attention in the learning process throughout the year. Although some learners might have strong linguistic skills in their native language, they may have deficiencies in their second language; it is the task of the teacher to help guide the student through this learning process.

Since I was a small child, I knew that I wanted to help people. When I am old and fragile, I want to be able to look back on my life and smile about what I have accomplished. Joining the PhD program for Kinesiology at Wayne State University greatly supports me in this mission. As part of my education, I have had the privilege of being immersed in disability culture; this prepared me to pursue my Doctoral Degree in Kinesiology in Education. My interest in becoming an educator dates back to my early elementary years. As with most students, I had experiences with instructors that varied between the good, the bad and the ugly. When my experiences were good, I excelled, took risks, learn, and I would push myself to master a skill. With the bad instances, I would shy away and try not to be noticed by the teacher. I quietly attempted to look busy. The ugly experiences were where I would become embarrassed and completely disengage with a lesson and from an instructor. Even at a young age, I saw which one of these people I would want to model. So the seed was planted in my head to become not just an educator, but a person to inspire others to reach for the stars and strive to achieve their full potential. In my free time I enjoy basketball and teaching.

Hey there! I am a programmer, writer, computer technician, and poet originally from Ghana, West Africa. I'm in my second year of college and pursuing a BS in Computer Science at the City College of New York. I have taken numerous college classes since high school such as Calculus, European History, and Physics. Additionally, I have completed a Data Strucutres and Programming course with a grade in the A range. I have been able to excel in these courses, by using online study tools such as videos and developing effective routines. I understand how frustrating it feels to spend so much time struggling to learn a topic and I also know how applying the right strategies to learning can make all the difference. For example, strategies such as close question analyzation can help students to mentally digest complex problems and help them assess the tools they can use to solve them.I look forward to helping all students to achieve more than they imagined and to develop the cognitive skills needed to succeed in the face of new challenges. Since my second year in high school, I have always searched out for opportunities to help others succeed in their courses. In my second year, I joined a club that assisted middle school students in preparing for their state exams. By means of persistence and effective studying techniques and continual practice, I assisted students to successfully complete both their Math and English state exams. Most recently, in 2019, I participated in a STEM summer program where I assisted middle school students to apply basic engineering principles such as prototyping to build various cardboard structures powered by Arduino circuit boards. I tirelessly worked to help all of them complete their projects and patiently worked with the needs of each student Furthermore, I assisted them in improving their critical thinking and problem-solving skills in order to effectively analyze problems and develop solutions to problems that they would encounter. I encouraged them to use the plethora of resources that are on the Internet to increase their knowledge. All these tactics enabled all 15 students I worked with to successfully demo their final projects.Currently, I am utilizing online resources to communicate with and assist students in math subjects such as Algebra and Calculus in programming languages such as C++ and even Middle School subjects. The students I work with have been able to successfully complete homework assignments and prepare for exams. I give each student an opportunity to assess their own knowledge first and then assist them, by means of questions and reasoning, to improve and master their coursework and gain skills. Helping students to successfully master concepts in their courses is certainly my top priority. I will work vigorously and effectively to help the students I tutor to achieve their highest However, this is not my only goal. I want to empower all my students to use all the tools and resources that are at their disposal to excel in whatever endeavor they take on. For example, when I work with a student on a problem I will not only help them understand and solve the problem at hand but I will teach them the techniques and strategies to solve similar problems, strategies such as problem deconstruction and examination. Truly, I want my students not only to reach for the stars but to get there and strive even farther.

I am an Assistant Director and 8th grade history teacher at a charter school in downtown Phoenix. I previously taught 3rd and 6th grade all subjects (math, science, history, language arts, writing and phonics). I have a teaching license in elementary education and have obtained a Master's in Elementary Education at Arizona State University. I also obtained my B.A. from Michigan State University with a double major in Humanities-Pre-Law and Women's Studies.I have been tutoring children for five years. While attending Michigan State University, I tutored 5th graders at a inner city elementary school as well as a preschooler and kindergartener whom attended a Montessori school. While in Phoenix, during my first year of teaching I tutored a 1st grader as well as students of various grades K-8 at my school. While I am passionate about every subject I teach, I especially enjoy math, english language arts and history. Mastering these subjects are pivotal to the success of elementary students and I enjoy creating different activities to help kids become excited about and invested in the subject. I believe that it is important to treat each child as an individual and customize the work to fit their needs and interests. Tutoring is much more than providing academic assistance to children, it is about building trusting relationships and instilling in them confidence to help them reach their full potential.I am very well rounded with many different interests. I love to spend time with family and friends, read, exercise, enjoy the outdoors, camp, roller blade, travel, cook, music, movies, arts and crafts, and the list goes on!

I love to learn, and I love to teach; I hope we can soon learn from each other!I believe in the potential of Dr. Carol Dweck's "growth mindset," and strongly feel that any student can succeed at what they really want--if they have access to the right tools. My goal is to help students find those tools so they can use them effectively and independently in the future. My primary experience has been in reading, writing, various kinds of science, and the arts, but I am happy to research and help students with other subjects as well!

Frequently Asked Questions
Most Bar Exam candidates find the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) and Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) particularly challenging because they require synthesizing multiple legal concepts under time pressure. Additionally, students often struggle with the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) subjects that involve nuanced distinctions—like distinguishing between different contract formation rules, criminal law defenses, or civil procedure requirements. Evidence and Professional Responsibility are also common pain points because they involve memorizing detailed rules with fact-specific applications. Personalized tutoring helps by targeting your specific weak areas rather than generic review of all subjects.
The MEE requires a more formulaic structure than law school essays—examiners expect clear issue spotting, rule statements with precision, and concise application to the facts provided. Unlike law school, there's less room for nuanced policy arguments; instead, you need to demonstrate mastery of black-letter law under tight time constraints (30 minutes per essay). A Bar Exam tutor can help you develop a consistent essay template, practice rapid issue identification, and learn to allocate time effectively across multiple topics in a single exam. Many students benefit from drilling past MEE questions to internalize the expected depth and breadth of analysis.
The MBE rewards pattern recognition and understanding why incorrect answers are wrong, not just why correct answers are right. High performers typically practice hundreds of questions in subject clusters (all contracts questions together, all torts together) to identify recurring rule applications and common traps. Spaced repetition and retrieval practice—revisiting questions you've missed weeks later—significantly improves retention. A tutor experienced with the MBE can help you analyze your question performance by subject and question type, identify whether you're missing rules or misapplying them, and develop targeted study strategies rather than generic review.
The MPT is fundamentally different because it's a closed-universe test—all the law you need is provided in the materials, and you're evaluated on how well you use those materials to solve a practical problem (drafting a memo, contract, demand letter, etc.). Unlike law school writing, you won't be penalized for not knowing external law; instead, examiners assess your ability to read complex documents quickly, extract relevant information, and apply it to the task. The time pressure (90 minutes per MPT) means efficiency matters more than eloquence. Tutors who specialize in the MPT help you develop systems for organizing materials, spotting controlling vs. illustrative authority, and structuring responses that directly address the instructions.
The best Bar Exam tutors have recent bar passage experience (ideally within the last 5 years), deep familiarity with your specific bar exam format (UBE, state-specific, etc.), and a track record helping students improve scores. Look for tutors who understand the distinctions between MBE, MEE, and MPT strategy—these require different skill sets—and who can diagnose whether your struggles stem from rule gaps, application errors, or time management. Ideally, your tutor should have scored well on the bar themselves and understand the psychology of test preparation. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who meet these standards and can tailor instruction to your learning style and timeline.
Most bar candidates benefit from 8-12 weeks of focused preparation, though the intensity varies based on your baseline knowledge and target score. Many law school graduates begin light review during their final semester of law school, then ramp up to 30-40 hours per week after graduation. The ideal timeline involves an initial survey phase (reviewing all subjects), a deep-dive phase (targeted practice on weak areas), and a final integration phase (full-length practice exams and timed drills). A tutor can help you create a personalized timeline based on your starting point, identify which subjects need more attention, and adjust your plan if you're not hitting target scores on practice exams.
Measurable progress typically shows up within 2-3 weeks of focused tutoring: improved accuracy on practice MBE questions (tracking percentage correct by subject), faster essay completion times with more complete rule statements, and better organization of MPT responses. Most students see a 5-10 point improvement in their MBE scaled score after addressing specific knowledge gaps, and essay scores improve when you internalize the expected format and depth. Full-length practice exam scores are the best predictor of actual bar passage—a tutor can help you analyze these results to identify whether you're ready or need additional focus in specific areas. Success ultimately means passing the bar on your first attempt, which personalized instruction significantly supports.
Yes—UBE jurisdictions (which use the Multistate Bar Examination, MEE, and MPT) have standardized content and scoring, making tutoring strategies more uniform. However, many states add state-specific essays or a state-specific multiple-choice component that requires knowledge of local rules, procedures, and case law. A tutor familiar with your specific jurisdiction can help you master state-specific requirements without diluting your preparation for uniform subjects. If you're taking a state-specific exam, ensure your tutor has experience with that jurisdiction's unique format and can allocate study time appropriately between uniform and state-specific content.
