I am a graduate of Mississippi State University where I earned a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education with a concentration in clinical exercise physiology. After earning my degree from Mississippi State University, I pursued and earned my Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from Tennessee State University. Later, I decided to switch gears and become a Massage Therapist. I absolutely love and enjoy the massage therapy profession. Moreover, I enjoy teaching others and students about the massage therapy field. I am very passionate about teaching and helping students accomplish their academic goals. I know school can seem a bit stressful at times, but through discipline, motivation, and confidence, the task can be accomplished. I have taught subjects such as Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology, Medical Terminology, Student Clinical, College Success, mblex licensure review, and my favorite Kinesiology for several years at various tech schools and colleges. I have also served as a lead instructor and department chair for the massage therapy program at various schools. During my several years of teaching, I have had great success with students passing their mblex on their first attempt with a 90% pass rate. In addition to this, I have attended a couple of mblex writing workshops that are affiliated with the Federation of State Board of Massage Therapy; therefore, I am very familiar with the testing format as well as the test question writing process for the exam. I am a member of the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals.
They call me a detective! I am a lifelong learner and natural born teacher. My teaching style is empowering, fun, and inquisitive. Strong suits: math, reading, language, writing, professional exams. Allow me to help you excel and connect the dots in all subject areas.
As a retired owner and instructor at the Healing Arts Institute, I bring over 35 years of experience in the massage therapy field, including more than 5 years dedicated to tutoring students for the MBLEX. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Communication from Montana State University - Billings, which enhances my ability to connect with students and facilitate their learning. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive and engaging environment where students feel empowered to ask questions and explore their potential. I am passionate about helping aspiring massage therapists succeed, and I take pride in guiding them through their educational journey. Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring holistic wellness practices and staying active, further enriching my approach to education.
I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. In all subjects, I take a creative, inquiry-based and learner-centered approach, designing opportunities for each unique individual to meet their learning goals.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. My primary areas of tutoring are math and statistics coursework in addition to math sections on standardized tests such as the GRE and GMAT. I am very passionate about helping students feel more confident and excited about math. In my spare time, I enjoy running, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.
I am proud to be a part of Varsity Tutors! MBLEX builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills that apply across academics and careers. A strong foundation in MBLEX opens doors to advanced coursework and prepares students for standardized tests.
Many students find that success in MBLEX boosts their confidence in related subjects too.
Common challenges include gaps from earlier material, difficulty with specific concepts, and trouble applying what's learned to new problems. These issues compound quickly in MBLEX because topics build on each other.
A tutor identifies exactly where you're stuck, fills in gaps, and gives you targeted practice until the concepts click. That 1-on-1 attention makes a big difference.
Look for someone with strong MBLEX knowledge who can explain concepts in multiple ways until you understand. Patience and the ability to adapt to your learning style matter as much as expertise.
