Who needs tutoring?
No obligation. Takes ~1 minute.

I am an avid learner, which likely explains why I have the highest terminal degree. Thus, I use a developmental approach to tutoring. This approach focuses on identifying and affirming relative strengths and developing a plan to build upon relative weaknesses. My goal is to leave you feeling more empowered about content (e.g., science, math, graduate or medical school admissions, post-graduate work, and executive functioning skill building) after each session.

I earned my BA in Industrial Psychology and MA in Family Counseling in New York, After working in standardized test preparation design for several years, I earned my PhD in Psychology and World Religion in San Diego, California. I tutor most subjects in psychology and sociology; specializing in essay and thesis editing. I love to tutor literature, writing, religion, culture, anything in the arts or humanities. I work well with students in the medical field and can tutor for qualifying exams IELTS, GRE Psychology, MCAT Psychology, EPPP. I like to help students meet their goals, keep organized and stay on track so they can enjoy learning. I have a lot of interests: reading, art, architecture, literature and travel. My teaching style reflects the needs of the learner and I assess and develop a plan that matches the speed and abilities of the student so we work together as a team towards their success.
I love learning, how your mind grows when you learn new things and are able to see life in different ways. One of my purposes in life is to help others and if I can help someone see the world with new eyes and feel better about themselves, I am very happy.
I am passionate about helping my students improve their confidence no matter their learning differences. I help increase motivation and participation based on the student's unique needs. I have experience tutoring the EPPP test, Psychology and Writing. I am a licensed psychologist and I have a doctorate in School Psychology and an MFA in Creative Writing. I have over 7 years of tutoring experience and have helped many children and adults with essays, stories, dissertations, and college essays. As a neurodiverse learner, I know how difficult it can be to stay motivated and learn new things. I help make learning more engaging by helping you create tools specific to your learning style and special interests. Everyone can be successful with the right support!
My name is Tim, and I am a clinical psychologist. My bachelor's degree is in psychology; my master's and doctoral degrees are in clinical psychology. I have worked for 35 years as a clinician, in many different settings and with a variety of problem areas. Along with my clinical work, I have done a significant amount of teaching, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, at a variety of academic settings. Approximately 25-30 years of that experience has been part-time, and one year was full-time. I love teaching and helping people learn and discover things. Psychology is a fascinating and far-ranging subject with myriad applications. Actually, the subject of psychology is relevant to everyone, as we all behave and we all interact with the behavior of others. I love psychology, and I love sharing my knowledge with others.
I am passionate about helping students connect theory to real-world understanding in psychology, sociology, and the behavioral sciences. As a psychologist and educator, I emphasize reasoning and critical thinkingskills essential for graduate study and professional licensure exams. My approach integrates recent findings in memory and learning science, aligning them with each student's goals and outcomes to make study both efficient and meaningful. Whether you are preparing for the GRE, psychology subject tests, or advanced coursework, I help you approach complex ideas with clarity, confidence, and purpose. My sessions focus on understanding rather than memorization, encouraging you to think analytically and apply knowledge effectively. Outside of teaching, I enjoy photography, dance, and travel each reminding me how diverse and fascinating human behavior truly is. Let us work together to turn your academic goals into lasting success.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. In all subjects, I take a creative, inquiry-based and learner-centered approach, designing opportunities for each unique individual to meet their learning goals.
I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. My primary areas of tutoring are math and statistics coursework in addition to math sections on standardized tests such as the GRE and GMAT. I am very passionate about helping students feel more confident and excited about math. In my spare time, I enjoy running, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.
I'm Solange - a recent graduate from Harvard where I studied Sociology & Women's Studies. Frequently Asked Questions
EPPP builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills that apply across academics and careers. A strong foundation in EPPP opens doors to advanced coursework and prepares students for standardized tests.
Many students find that success in EPPP boosts their confidence in related subjects too.
Common challenges include gaps from earlier material, difficulty with specific concepts, and trouble applying what's learned to new problems. These issues compound quickly in EPPP because topics build on each other.
A tutor identifies exactly where you're stuck, fills in gaps, and gives you targeted practice until the concepts click. That 1-on-1 attention makes a big difference.
Look for someone with strong EPPP knowledge who can explain concepts in multiple ways until you understand. Patience and the ability to adapt to your learning style matter as much as expertise.
Varsity Tutors vets all tutors through background checks, credential review, and teaching evaluation—so you can focus on finding the right personality and teaching approach fit.
For students who are struggling, stuck, or want to excel, tutoring often pays off in better grades, stronger test scores, and reduced stress. The 1-on-1 format lets you move at your own pace and focus on what you actually need.
Many students also develop better study habits that serve them in other subjects.
Most students benefit from 1-2 sessions per week. If you're significantly behind or have a major exam coming up, more frequent sessions can help you catch up faster.
