From the age of 7 or 8 I have always had a lot of curiosity about other people and cultures and find hearing other people talk about themselves much more interesting than me talking about myself! Learning a foreign language and speaking it with native people, especially in their own countries is really thrilling. It opens up a side of ourselves that was previously unexplored and broadens our understanding of people outside our normal circle of family and friends. As a tutor I want to ensure that students are able to clearly articulate their goals, however practical or ambitious and ensure that they overcome any barriers achieving their stated goals. I have a BA in French and Spanish from the University of Wales in the UK with a Distinction oral proficiency in Spanish. I also have passed the French final oral (Part 1) exam at the Institute of Linguists. I am keen to help all types of students advance and accomplish their goals.

I am a graduate of Texas A&M University where I received my Master's in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction. I also hold a Bachelors in Arts for Sociology and in Spanish. Through my graduate program, I received my teacher certification in the state of Texas for teaching Spanish Early Childhood-12 Grade, English as a Second Language, and English Language Arts and Reading 6-8. In the past, I have taught Spanish as a world language to students in grades 9 - 12. I also worked as an ESL teacher to students in grades 6 - 8 where I helped English language learners adjust to life in the United States and prepare them for success in all core academic subjects for two years. In 2021, I lived in Spain and taught English to students K-6. Since 2022 I have started teaching 8th grade English Language Arts. I have many years of experience tutoring students at the secondary level for English, Spanish, French, and various social studies subjects including Texas History, U.S. History, World History, Sociology, and Psychology.

I completed four years of undergraduate study at the University of Georgia, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Latin American and Caribbean studies. That fall, after graduating in 2010, I moved to Spain where I began working in a public high school, teaching various subjects in English to Spanish students whose ages ranged from 12-18. After two years, I started teaching adults at a private academy in a nearby city in southern Spain, preparing them for official English exams from Cambridge and Trinity and tutoring private clients. In 2014 I got my Master's in Applied Linguistics from NYU. Currently, in the middle of this pandemic, I am teaching English to young Chinese students virtually. In my ten years of experience helping struggling students whose profiles vary greatly, I am a firm supporter of continuing education. It is absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I love sharing my passion for learning with my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, baseball and other sports, yoga, running, listening to music and crocheting.

I am passionate about helping students because I love tutoring and I also want to give others an opportunity to learn and develop their skills and personalities! Teaching students has been absolutely wonderful, my favorite part of teaching is seeing the smiles of my student's when they get a question right! I am currently working to get my associates in social work to help children with any difficulties that they may have at school or at home. I love to sing and watch romantic comedies.

Frequently Asked Questions
Verb conjugation is one of the biggest hurdles in 5th grade Spanish ELA because students must juggle multiple tenses (present, preterite, imperfect) while also managing irregular verbs. A tutor breaks this down systematically—starting with present tense patterns, then layering in past tenses once those patterns stick. Rather than memorizing conjugation charts, effective tutors use personalized sentences and stories that help students see conjugations in context, making the patterns more intuitive and memorable.
Classroom settings often don't provide enough individual speaking time, especially for students who need more processing time or feel self-conscious. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction creates a low-pressure environment where students can practice conversation, ask questions without interruption, and receive immediate feedback on pronunciation and grammar. Tutors can tailor conversations to your child's interests—whether that's talking about their favorite books, sports, or hobbies—making speaking practice feel natural rather than like a test.
Many students memorize vocabulary lists for tests but forget words quickly because they haven't used them meaningfully. Effective tutoring uses spaced repetition and retrieval practice—revisiting vocabulary across multiple sessions in different contexts (reading, writing, conversation). Tutors also help students build personal connections to words, create memory associations, and use new vocabulary in sentences about their own lives, which strengthens retention far more than isolated word lists.
Fifth graders often get stuck translating every single word, which exhausts them and breaks comprehension. Tutors teach students to recognize cognates (words similar to English), use context clues, and read for meaning rather than perfect word-by-word understanding. By working through age-appropriate stories, articles, and texts together, tutors help students build confidence reading at natural speed and develop strategies for tackling unfamiliar words without constantly reaching for a dictionary.
Yes—pronunciation is one of the clearest benefits of 1-on-1 tutoring. Tutors model correct pronunciation, listen carefully to your child's speech, and provide specific, immediate feedback on sounds that don't exist in English (like the rolled 'r' or the distinction between 'z' and 'c'). Regular practice with a tutor builds muscle memory for these sounds, and students gain confidence speaking without worrying about being corrected in front of peers.
Fifth graders struggle with Spanish-specific writing mechanics: accent marks (tildes), gendered nouns and adjectives, and constructing grammatically correct sentences. They also often write the way they speak, which doesn't always transfer to written Spanish. Tutors teach these mechanics explicitly through guided writing practice—starting with sentence-building exercises, then moving to short paragraphs and stories. Tutors also provide editing feedback that helps students internalize rules rather than just correct errors.
Language learning is richer when students understand the cultures where Spanish is spoken. Tutors weave cultural context into lessons—discussing holidays, traditions, literature, and current events from Spanish-speaking countries. This approach helps students understand why certain phrases exist, makes vocabulary more meaningful, and builds genuine interest in the language beyond just passing tests. Cultural immersion also helps students see Spanish as a living language used by millions, not just a school subject.
Personalized instruction is built for this reality. A tutor assesses where your child actually is—not where the grade level says they should be—and tailors lessons accordingly. If a student is struggling with present tense basics, the tutor doesn't rush into past tenses just because the curriculum moves forward. Conversely, advanced students can dive deeper into nuanced grammar, literature analysis, or creative writing. This flexibility prevents frustration and keeps students engaged at the right challenge level.
