Brian
Certified AP Statistics Tutor
Brian
PhD University of California-Santa Cruz • BA California Institute of Technology
9+ Years Tutoring

Caltech's economics program is quantitatively rigorous — Brian's coursework meant building econometric models, running hypothesis tests on real datasets, and defending statistical conclusions in ways that mirror exactly what AP Stats free-response questions demand. His dual background in CS and economics gives him a knack for explaining the logic behind choosing between z-procedures and t-procedures, or why independence conditions matter, in terms that click for students who think algorithmically. SAT score of 1580 speaks to the precision he brings to exam strategy.

Alain
Certified AP Statistics Tutor
Alain
BA University of California Los Angeles
1+ Years Tutoring

Business economics at UCLA meant Alain was constantly building and interrogating statistical models — testing whether consumer behavior patterns held up under regression analysis, or whether a pricing strategy's results were just sampling noise. His math minor adds the formal probability backbone that makes topics like binomial and geometric distributions click on a conceptual level, not just a calculator-button level. He's planning to pursue graduate work in mathematical game theory, which is essentially applied probability and strategic inference all the way down.

Pratik
BA Cornell University
8+ Years Tutoring

Pre-med coursework at Cornell means Pratik reads research papers full of p-values, confidence intervals, and regression tables — the same statistical literacy AP Stats is designed to build. He leans into the biology-meets-data angle, teaching students how to interpret experimental results and articulate why a particular inference procedure fits the study design, which is where the free-response rubric awards the most points. His 35 ACT reflects the kind of precise, structured reasoning that translates well to stats communication.

Julie
BA Princeton University
1+ Years Tutoring

A philosophy major with a certificate in Statistics and Machine Learning from Princeton, Julie approaches AP Stats from both sides — the computational mechanics and the careful logical reasoning about what the numbers actually prove. That philosophy training is surprisingly relevant: questions about whether correlation implies causation, what constitutes a valid inference, and how to structure an argument from evidence are the same skills the free-response section grades hardest on. Yosef
PhD Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
8+ Years Tutoring

Hello, my name is Yosef and I would be happy to serve as a math tutor. I place strong emphasis on a good balance between knowledge of mathematical content and proficiency in problem-solving, reasoning, and conveying mathematical ideas in writing. There are times when a student needs to be informed of a solution, times when he or she also needs to hear the explanation of why the solution works, and times when he or she should be guided to finding the solution on his or her own. It is important for the tutor to recognize which approach is appropriate. Frequently, when students struggle, it is because they do not understand the notation or terminology in use. In such cases, it is important to reassure the student, reminding him or her that he or she is only struggling with understanding a single word, not the entire mathematical concept. As a rule, people perform better and are better motivated when they have self-confidence, not when the task ahead seems frighteningly daunting. It is also important to recognize that different students learn best through different means. As an example, some students are visual learners and can understand the material best through pictures and gestures. Other students learn best through hearing the procedures vocalized, while still others learn best through writing out the steps of the solution procedure. I know to adapt my teaching style to the individual student. with these considerations in mind, I promise to provide the best assistance that I can, taking your individual needs into consideration.

Benjamin
BA University of Notre Dame
5+ Years Tutoring

Most AP Stats students come in expecting another math class and get blindsided by how much the exam rewards written explanation over calculation — Benjamin's finance and economics training at Notre Dame, where he constantly interpreted data to support business decisions, built exactly that skill set. He teaches students his own shortcuts for quickly reading output tables and translating statistical results into the precise, context-specific language that earns full marks on free-response inference questions. Rated 5.0 by students.

Aneri
Current Undergrad, Psychology Cornell University
1+ Years Tutoring

Studying neuroscience at Cornell with a math minor, Aneri encounters statistics constantly — analyzing behavioral data, interpreting research findings, and evaluating whether experimental results actually mean something. She digs into the normal distribution and sampling logic that underpin most AP Stats inference questions, connecting the abstract formulas to the kind of real study designs her psychology coursework requires her to critique every week.

Jake
BA Northwestern University
8+ Years Tutoring

Studying statistics at Northwestern means Jake isn't just learning the concepts AP Stats covers — he's using them daily in upper-division coursework involving real data analysis, probability models, and inference procedures. That ongoing immersion makes him sharp on the details students tend to blur, like the difference between a parameter and a statistic or why checking conditions before running a test isn't optional. Cognitive science at Rice meant Adam spent semesters immersed in experimental design, hypothesis testing, and statistical inference — the exact skills AP Statistics demands. He teaches students to think through probability distributions and confidence intervals the way a researcher would, connecting each concept to the logic behind the test rather than just the formula sheet.

Running simulations of cosmic ray acceleration at Princeton's astrophysics department meant Dennis lived in probability distributions, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis daily. He brings that applied statistics fluency to AP Stats, breaking down concepts like chi-square tests and confidence intervals through real data scenarios rather than rote formulas. Rated 4.7 by students.

Sharan
BA Cornell University
6+ Years Tutoring

Inference tests trip up most AP Statistics students not because the math is hard, but because choosing between a t-test, a chi-square, and a z-interval requires careful attention to context. Sharan's quantitative training in Human Biology at Cornell means she regularly interprets data distributions and p-values — and she breaks down the logic behind each test so students can identify the right approach on exam day.

As a statistics major at Carleton College, Aya doesn't just teach AP Stats formulas — she uses them daily in her own coursework. She breaks down tricky concepts like inference for regression slopes, chi-square tests, and experimental design by connecting each one to real data scenarios that make the logic behind the math click.

Cognitive science trains you to think about how people reason under uncertainty — which is surprisingly close to what AP Stats actually tests, from interpreting conditional probabilities to explaining why a particular sampling method can skew results. Kimberly uses that background to teach the mental models behind concepts like normal distributions and inference, so the logic clicks before students ever touch a calculator. Rated 5.0 by students.
