Hello! In addition to STEM subjects, I have always harbored a love for learning new languages and especially enjoy learning and teaching Spanish. In addition to studying Spanish in school for 9 years, during high school, I took private conversation classes for Spanish with a native Spanish-speaking instructor to improve my fluency. Last summer, I had the opportunity to briefly study abroad at a Spanish school in Santiago, Chile, in a homestay program. In addition to periodically tutoring my younger brother during his school year, I currently serve as an algebra tutor for the tutoring hotline at my college. These experiences have given me a firsthand understanding of the true joys that accompany tutoring. I really enjoy watching and aiding the intellectual advancement of students over time and genuinely appreciate being a part of the milestone moments that track this advancement. My philosophy with regards to tutoring is that all students have their own specific goals and unique ways of learning, and that it is my job to recognize these different ways and adjust my instructing methods to best work with individual students and help them reach their desired goals. I strongly believe that having a solid understanding of the fundamentals is an important step in effectively clearing confusion surrounding difficult material and work hard to incorporate and build fundamental concepts in my lesson plans. In my free time, I enjoy playing my clarinet, practicing the piano, practicing aikido, reading, and going on walks with my dog.
