On the morning of the championship game Max woke up early, too excited to sleep! From his room he could smell bacon and pancakes, so he rushed to the kitchen. After his belly was full and he had put on his bright green uniform, Max and his family drove to the ballpark for his final baseball game.

The answer to this question can be found in the second paragraph of the passage.

Because we want to know which event happened first, we want to start at the beginning of the story.
We do learn in the first paragraph that the winning team gets a pizza party, but that's not when we are told that Max's team went to a pizza party, so that is not the correct answer.
The last paragraph of the story is when we learn that Max's team won the baseball game, so that is not the correct answer.
In the second paragraph we learn that Max wakes up and then eats breakfast. Because we want to know what he did first, "Max woke up" is the correct answer.

What is the first thing we learn about Max?

Because we are looking for the first thing we learn about Max, we want to start at the beginning of the passage. The first sentence tells us that Max plays on a baseball team. We later learn the name of his team, that his team has won all of their games, and that Max hit a home run during his last baseball game.
The correct answer is "he plays on a baseball team".
