I am proud to be a part of Varsity Tutors! I am originally from San Antonio, TX; I completed my undergraduate education at Rice University in Houston where I received a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Currently, I am in my second year of medical school at Baylor College of Medicine.

I am a student at Trinity University currently studying biochemistry. I have experience as a tutor my senior year at Clear Lake High School, when I worked as an instructor at Mathnasium. I also volunteered in a program helping students with SAT prep and college applications. My favorite subject to tutor is math, because the clear cut answers of mathematics make it easy for a student to see their progress and build their confidence, which for me is the best part of tutoring! My teaching style is very flexible, as everyone has different needs, but I usually use a lot of socratic questioning. Outside of academics, my interests include singing, soccer, and most recently, rock climbing!

I am a graduate of New York University and received my Bachelor of Science in Finance. I also completed my premedical coursework at NYU and will be attending medical school in July 2015 as my next step to becoming a pediatrician. Ever since high school, I have tutored and worked with children of all ages and from all backgrounds. As a tutor at Mathnasium, I worked with elementary and middle school students to improve their math skills. In college, I worked for America Reads and served as a reading tutor for 3rd graders in a NYC public school. And after graduation, I spent my time before medical school teaching self-contained 4th grade in Houston ISD. While I tutor a wide range of age groups and content areas, I am most passionate about tutoring math, science, and college admission tests (SAT and ACT). As a public school teacher, I am also very familiar with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade STAAR strategies and content. I have had a lifelong passion for working with children, teaching, learning, and math/science. I truly enjoy building relationships with my students and watching them grow academically. Besides teaching children, some of my hobbies include: hiking, skiing, swimming, working with animals, and enjoying the great outdoors.

I'm currently attending Rice University- pursuing a double major Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Economics. As you can probably tell I'm very passionate about math, and I'm even more passionate about teaching it! I prefer to teach math a little differently than some of you may used to. Many of students think of math as a plug and chug approach- simply being given formulas and plugging numbers in. While I will give you the formulas and critical things to remember if you insist on it, I prefer to teach mathematics as a form of problem solving. How math works is a beautiful thought process- understanding how a formula was conceived is much more rewarding than simply memorizing it. But in the end it's all up to you- the student. If you want a fast run-down of everything you need to know to ace the test- I'll happily help you. However, if you're willing to think outside of the box and learn some very neat stuff, I'll open the doors to mathematical problem solving for you!

I'm an undergraduate at Rice University, majoring in Physics and Biochemistry, with a strong passion for research, classical music, and good teaching. I've loved math and science from a young age and am eager to share my knowledge with other students. I believe that everyone deserves to enjoy learning about our world and that everyone has their own preferred way to learn. That's why I hope to offer personalized tutoring that helps you learn not just the material but also how to better teach yourself.

I am a first year pure math PhD student at Boston College.

I am currently studying petroleum engineering at The University of Houston. Although I was typically a strong student in all areas throughout high school, there were some teaching styles I encountered that complicated the material more than was necessary. In fact, I avoided certain subjects for several years simply because of one unpleasant introductory class.

I am able to tutor in a variety of subjects from middle school all the way up to introductory college courses. I especially enjoy helping students with math or English coursework. I can also help with a variety of standardized tests, from the SSAT to the MCAT. I am very interested in helping students overcome test anxiety by learning strategies that can help them stay calm and be efficient. In particular, I want to help students who struggle with timed essays - I myself had to learn ways to complete them successfully, and I hope I can pass on some of these skills.

I am currently a rising Senior at Rice University from Alexandria, Virginia. I'm studying Political Science and Latin American Studies with a minor in Politics, Law and Social Thought. After I graduate I hope to go to law school to become an immigration lawyer.

I'm an undergraduate at Columbia University in New York City, and from this you might think that Varsity has put my profile in the wrong city. They most certainly have not: I am a Houstonian, born and raised, and I'm back in my hometown for the summer. Last year in New York, I worked with Elementary schoolers, helping with preparation for New York State Math and English exams. This summer, I'm looking forward to helping with test-prep for all ages. With the help of some excellent teachers, I myself scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT, helping me get into Columbia, one of the most prestigious universities in the country. Since then, I've wanted to join that elite corps, to help other students conquer standardized testing, complete the college application process, and go further on the road to achieving their dreams. At Columbia, I study Computer Science, but I also have a great passion for the sciences, math, and literature. I enjoy Chemistry and Physics, am very comfortable in math from Pre-Algebra all the way through Calculus I, and have gathered some great insight about the sort of writing that is expected from America's top universities. I love learning of all sorts, and hope to be able to share some of that passion this summer! When I'm not preparing for classes, I enjoy reading the classics, learning new programming languages, and exploring the two wonderful cities I'm so privileged to split my time between.

I am currently a student at the University of California at Berkeley. I have worked children of all ages, from kindergarten to high school. During my senior year in high school, I tutored fellow students in SAT and ACT prep, as well as various math and science courses. I enjoy teaching a variety of subjects, but my favorites are math and English. I enjoy getting to know each student and design my curriculums based on each student???s needs. In my spare time, I play the piano, violin, and guitar.
