I am a dentist who recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. I have always been a tutor driven by a desire to help the student understand the course material beyond the scope of the class and syllabus. I majored in Biology during my undergraduate career, and so I am strongest in math and science courses. I tutor all ages from elementary school to those who are applying for graduate programs. I have helped students for the past 5 years in Biology, Chemistry, and Math at the collegiate and high school level. I also enjoy preparing students for entrance exams such as the ACT, SAT, or DAT. Inviting all those who are curious to learn and hungry to achieve more to connect with me for an ever-enthralling journey up the learning curve!

I am a graduate of Dartmouth College where I majored in History. I also received my M.Ed. from Boston College so that I could become a middle school and high school social studies teacher. Currently, I am working concurrently on my JD (at Duke University) and my Ph.D. in Education (at Boston College) and hope to one day combine the two degrees by working in policy. I have tutored or been in the education field my entire life and love it when I am able to help a scholar learn something new. I love to tutor a broad range of subjects but primarily focus on History and English. I particularly love working with scholars on their college essays and finding ways to get their unique voice and experience into writing. Education is crucial and it is important to work with scholars so that they realize the vast amount of knowledge there is in the world. In my free time, I love putting together puzzles, playing Xbox, or cheering on the Dallas Cowboys! Hobbies: reading, music, art, books, writing

I am a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am working towards a BFA in Dance and Choreography with minors in Political Science and Psychology. I have served as a TA for a freshman honors writing course at VCU since Fall 2018. I have also assisted and taught children's dance classes. I enjoy babysitting and helping my younger sister with her homework. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math, Science, and Psychology. I am also happy to help students prepare for Standardized Tests, particularly with the math portions of the exams. I have always felt respect and admiration towards my teachers in both smaller and more grand situations who have shaped me into the lifelong learner that I am. As a tutor, my goal is to make good on this foundation and show students the same courtesy my teachers have shown me.

I am extremely passionate about academics and learning; the value of each was inculcated into me at a very young age. I tutor a variety of subjects largely because I have so many areas of interests and have been privileged enough to pursue knowledge in those areas. I even enjoy tucking away "useless facts"...in fact, those very tidbits got me past the Jeopardy! Online Test and into the Contestant Audition!

I am a patient teacher who can explain problems in many different ways according to how individual students learn best. I only ask that you know and explain to me what topics you do not know or get so far. I know that every student can learn a subject with a combination of practice and patience, but I insist upon consistent effort and sessions. As an educator I do not support last minute cramming as the primary learning method of content for students as it does not lead to retention of material, mastery of larger themes, or the ability to differentiate between subtle differences when problem-solving on tests and exams. I will help my clients when they need extra sessions before Final Exams and AP Exams, but those who have been working the hardest throughout the school year to regularly improve will get preference over those students who are panicked at the last minute, but have put off meeting with me. Hobbies: books, writing, reading, music, films, art

I am currently a graduate student Johns Hopkins University getting my masters in chemical and biomolecular engineering. I have spent a lot of time around children and I have spent a good amount of time teaching as well. I want all students that I tutor to feel comfortable when I am tutoring them and I believe all students have the ability to improve. I am very comfortable teaching all subjects for grades up to 9th grade and, when dealing with high school courses, I love to tutor most math and science courses including many AP courses. I also have a lot of experience with standardized test prep and love to tutor for that as well. Hobbies: music, running, art, books, writing, reading

I am exploring my creativity by pursuing a double major in Asian Languages and Cultures with a focus in Korean, studying abroad in South Korea as a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholar, leading workshops that teach 3D printing and CAD for undergraduate students as the president of 3D4E, advocating for the first-generation and low-income student community as the Outreach Chair of the Quest+ Scholars Network, and getting involved with the Society of Women Engineers' outreach committee. I currently hold a work-study position as an administrative clerical aide in the Institute of Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern and was an undergraduate researcher in the John Rogers Lab. As I look forward with aspirations of applying to graduate school, areas of research in biomedical engineering and biotechnology that I am particularly interested in include biomaterials, pharmaceuticals, and drug delivery systems. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy learning on my own and sharing my experience and knowledge with my peers and other students. I hope to make use of my experiences with academics and learning in high school and so far in my undergraduate career in order to effectively tutor students who may be experiencing the same struggles in learning that I also experienced.

Frequently Asked Questions
Elementary science students often struggle with understanding abstract concepts like invisible forces (gravity, magnetism), the water cycle, and how living systems work at scales they can't directly observe. Many students also find it challenging to move beyond memorizing facts (like naming planets or animal classifications) to actually understanding the "why" behind scientific phenomena. Additionally, students frequently have misconceptions about basic concepts—like thinking heavier objects fall faster, or that plants get food from soil rather than making it through photosynthesis—that can persist if not directly addressed through hands-on exploration and guided reasoning.
Tutors help students practice the scientific method through guided inquiry—asking questions like "What do you observe?" and "What would happen if we changed this variable?" rather than simply providing answers. This approach teaches students to form hypotheses, design simple experiments, and interpret results, which builds genuine understanding of concepts like cause-and-effect relationships and evidence-based reasoning. When students actively investigate why a plant needs sunlight or how different materials react to water, they retain knowledge far longer than through memorization alone, and they develop critical thinking skills that transfer across all science topics.
Tutors use a variety of strategies to make abstract concepts concrete: drawing diagrams of molecules and atoms, using physical models to show how the water cycle works, or acting out planetary orbits to illustrate gravity and motion. For topics like photosynthesis or the digestive system, tutors might use analogies (like a plant being a "food factory") combined with labeled diagrams to help students build mental images of processes they can't see. This multi-sensory approach—combining visual, kinesthetic, and verbal explanations—helps students move from confusion to genuine comprehension of how invisible forces and microscopic processes actually work.
Yes, many tutors incorporate simple, safe experiments and demonstrations into sessions to reinforce concepts students are learning in class. These might include growing crystals to understand mineral formation, mixing household materials to explore chemical reactions, building circuits with batteries and bulbs to learn about electricity, or observing decomposition to understand ecosystems. These hands-on activities make learning memorable and help students see that science isn't just textbook content—it's happening all around them. Tutors can also help students design and conduct their own simple investigations, which builds confidence and deeper understanding of the scientific method.
Life science topics (like cells, ecosystems, human body systems, and plant life cycles) often require helping students understand complex, interconnected systems and moving beyond memorization of vocabulary. Tutors use diagrams, analogies, and discussions of real-world examples to build conceptual understanding. Physical science topics (like forces, motion, energy, and simple machines) often benefit from demonstrations and hands-on exploration where students can directly observe cause-and-effect relationships. Regardless of the focus, effective tutors help students see connections between what they're learning and the world around them—whether that's understanding why a plant needs water or why a ramp makes it easier to push a heavy object uphill.
Tutors help students build both content knowledge and test-taking confidence by reviewing key concepts, identifying areas of weakness, and practicing with sample questions and performance tasks. Rather than just drilling facts, effective tutors help students understand what questions are really asking and how to explain their reasoning—skills that are increasingly important on assessments that require short-answer or constructed-response answers. Tutors also help students organize their knowledge (using concept maps, study guides, or practice experiments) so they can retrieve information quickly and apply concepts to new situations, which is what most science assessments measure.
Tutors can support students by reading science text aloud, breaking down complex sentences into simpler language, and using visuals and diagrams to convey information that might be difficult to extract from written text alone. Many elementary science concepts can be understood through discussion, observation, and hands-on exploration without relying solely on reading—a tutor can guide students through these experiences and help them build vocabulary and conceptual understanding at their own pace. This approach ensures that reading difficulties don't prevent a student from developing genuine scientific understanding and confidence in the subject.
Many students develop anxiety or disengagement in science when they feel confused or fall behind, but personalized tutoring allows students to ask questions without embarrassment and learn at their own pace. When a tutor meets a student where they are—addressing specific misconceptions, celebrating small wins, and connecting science to things the student cares about—students begin to see themselves as capable of understanding science. This shift in confidence often leads to greater curiosity and willingness to tackle challenging topics, transforming science from a subject that feels overwhelming into one where students feel empowered to explore and ask questions.
