I am currently a student at NC State University working towards a B.S. in physics with minors in computer science and mathematics. I'm looking to tutor in high school and college-level math courses, standardized test prep, and physics. I have some unofficial tutoring experience at the high school level. I'm excited to start tutoring because I really do enjoy helping people and watching them grow. I think it's super cool to see someone gain confidence in their abilities and improve. In fact, I'm thinking about trying to become a professor myself some day. My biggest goal is to make my students more passionate about learning by the time we are done, even if only a little bit!
Ananya
ACT Tutor
My name is Ananya, and I am a recent graduate of Georgetown University, where I obtained a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.A. in Government, graduating with Honors. In college, my favorite areas of math were calculus, linear algebra, and data science, which led me to conduct math statistics research for two years. I am an incoming Master's student at Cambridge University, where I will be studying and researching Digital Policy. My interdisciplinary educational experience informs my creative and engaging approach to education. I have many years of teaching experience throughout high school, I tutored elementary and middle school math and English in both paid and volunteer positions, and served as a TA for Precalculus and AP US History. In college, I served as a leader for multiple mentorship programs for high schoolers and incoming college students. These experiences taught me patience and the ability to adapt learning experiences to individual students' strengths. I take a reflective and iterative approach to tutoring, with practice, feedback, and application of material in various contexts. As your tutor, I am passionate about fostering a deeper understanding of material that will lead to your success, while embedding fun into the process. Please consider booking a lesson, and I look forward to getting started!
Sarayu
SAT Tutor
I am at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Currently, I am a Political Science major and a Data Science minor. Before working with Varsity Tutors, I have worked as a volunteer math tutor virtually for around 3 years at Peer2Peer and have since had a strong passion for helping students learn and enjoy the subjects they encounter. I have also assisted with SAT prep during the summer prior to my senior year as a part of a fundraiser for an pre-health organization I was a part of. Being a part of someone's learning process and helping them achieve their goals is one of the most rewarding experiences I took part in. The feeling when a particular concept clicks with a student is incomparable to anything else. It's a hard earned testament to the work of the student, and I want to help in the achievement of that goal. I am a tutor who values compassionate practice- making sure the student feels comfortable around me and helping them gain the confidence to approach harder topics. The thing that I stress the most is that everyone, regardless of skill level, makes mistakes, and that isn't a bad thing. Mistakes help us grow instead of stagnate. I hope to help every student I teach remember that.

I am a current student at Guilford College pursuing a degree in Biology, and I would love to help any student find their passion in math and science! I especially enjoy teaching cellular biology and botany, as those are my academic specialties. I love working with visual learners especially to help create diagrams and charts that can take information to a new level. Outside of the classroom, I like to hike and tend to my plants in my garden. Let me know if I can be of any service, either online or in a local coffee shop!

As a 2024 graduate of Dartmouth College, I hope to use my recent classroom experience to help younger students enjoy the process of learning. I'd like to use my major in Economics to help high school and even undergraduate students navigate the subject. In addition to having a minor in Spanish, several cultural immersion experiences abroad have prepared me to encourage students of all ages to learn to communicate in the language as well.

I am currently a physics major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have previously tutored at Mathnasium, teaching primarily middle school students with some elementary school students and some high school students. I primarily teach physics and math. I am very passionate about teaching, because I think every student has a different perspective. It is truly amazing how different students tend to think compared to adults, often displaying immense amounts of creativity, enthusiasm, and courage that most people could only dream of. It is important not to underestimate these qualities in young scholars, which is why I make it my goal to personally understand the students that I teach.

I am currently enrolled at North Carolina Central University as a Psychology major. I hope to go to grad school after attaining my bachelors degree and eventually become a licensed talk therapist. Though my focus in school is on Psych, Ive chosen Reading and English as my tutoring subjects because ever since I read my first book as a child I've had a passion for both. I love reading new stories and learning new things and I treasure having the ability to comprehend and be able to help others comprehend underlying themes and messages that are being relayed throughout different texts. I believe that as long as you have the right strategies, reading comprehension can become a tool in anyones belt. There is a lesson in every text and that is a concept I will strive to be able to pass along to all my students. Outside of academics, I play the clarinet and spend most of my free time with the Marching Band at my school. Hobbies: books, music, singing, painting, art, reading, writing

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Charlotte has 31 school districts serving over 118,000 students across 206 schools, and Varsity Tutors connects students from all of them with personalized 1-on-1 instruction. Whether your student attends a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school, a charter school, or a private institution, tutors can support them with curriculum-aligned help tailored to their specific school's standards and pacing.
North Carolina has specific grade-level standards for math, reading, science, and social studies that students need to master. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who understand NC standards and can provide targeted instruction to help students build mastery in areas where they're struggling—whether that's foundational skills, test preparation, or advanced coursework. This personalized approach is especially valuable in a large district where classroom teacher-to-student ratios average 16.8:1.
Charlotte students frequently seek support in math (especially algebra and geometry transitions), reading comprehension and writing, science (biology, chemistry, physics), and test preparation for standardized assessments like NC EOGs and EOCs. Many students also benefit from tutoring during transitions between elementary, middle, and high school, when curriculum demands shift significantly. Varsity Tutors can connect you with tutors specializing in any subject your student needs.
Your first session is a chance for the tutor to understand your student's current level, learning style, and specific goals—whether that's improving a grade, preparing for a test, or building confidence in a challenging subject. The tutor will ask about what's working and what isn't, review any recent assignments or test results, and create a personalized plan. You'll leave with a clear picture of how tutoring will help your student succeed.
Varsity Tutors offers flexible tutoring packages to fit different needs and budgets, with options for ongoing support, intensive test prep, or targeted help in specific subjects. You can discuss your budget and goals when connecting with a tutor, and they'll work with you to create a plan that makes sense for your family. Many Charlotte families find that even a few sessions per week can make a meaningful difference in their student's confidence and performance.
Start by telling us about your student—their grade level, subject, and what you'd like help with. Varsity Tutors will match them with a tutor who fits their needs, and you'll connect for a first session. The process is straightforward, and you can typically begin tutoring within days. Most families appreciate how quickly they see their student gain confidence and momentum once they start working with a tutor.
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who have strong subject expertise and teaching experience—many hold teaching credentials, advanced degrees, or have years of tutoring experience in their subject areas. Tutors are vetted for reliability and professionalism, and they understand how to work with Charlotte's diverse student population and curriculum standards. You'll get a tutor matched to your student's specific needs, not a generic match.
Many students show noticeable improvement in confidence and understanding within the first few weeks of tutoring, though the timeline for grade or test score improvements depends on the student's starting point and how frequently they meet with their tutor. Consistent, personalized instruction—especially in a district with larger average class sizes like Charlotte's—often leads to measurable gains within 4-8 weeks. Your tutor will regularly assess progress and adjust the plan to keep your student moving forward.
