I am an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis majoring in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology on the Premed track. I have two years worth of experience peer tutoring. I feel the most confident tutoring ACT preparation. During my time as a high school student, I worked from an ACT score of 25 to a 36 and developed many effective strategies that I will tailor to the students I tutor and understand the ins and outs of the test. In addition to working with high school peers, I have also enjoyed teaching private piano and violin lessons for elementary students. Helping people knock down their roadblocks is a passion of mine. Standardized tests and basic education may feel removed from our passions, but developing those foundations are essential for opening up opportunities and becoming capable of taking on our pursuits.

I'm referring to math, of course, but I didn't always like the subject. Until about age 16, I thought of math as a boring, mind-numbing process of blindly memorizing formulas and then forgetting them after the test, but a series of wonderful teachers showed me the truth. I had thought that everything in math was invented arbitrarily just to torture students, but actually it all made sense in a deep way. When I caught a glimpse of what math really was, I found it irresistible and I ended up majoring in math in college at UChicago. I'm currently a Master's student in Computer Science at NYU.

I am a 4th year student at The University of Chicago majoring in Economics. I recently completed all of my coursework and am now filling my time with the activities I most enjoy. One of these activities is teaching. At the beginning of this academic year, I joined an organization on campus that teaches juniors and seniors at a local high school about community engagement through the lens of philanthropy. Through this, I have the unique opportunity to empower students to become leaders in their community; to provide them a platform to change issues about which they are most passionate. This experience inspires my desire to educate young students; to provide them the tools to be leaders, whether that be in the classroom, on the playing field, or in their community. My time as a youth soccer coach and tutor of my little brother and his friends has further bolstered my love of teaching. Given my extensive experience and longtime passion for math and applied math subjects, I feel I can best help students seeking help in these areas, though I have experience in a broad range of subjects. Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing soccer, basketball, guitar and piano, as well as cooking, hiking and listening to podcasts.

Linear Algebra Tutor • +3 Subjects
I've been working with students for over seven years, from middle school all the way through college, across subjects like math, calculus, statistics, linear algebra, chemistry, and physics, with a lot of SAT and ACT prep mixed in. My background is perhaps a little unconventional. I have two bachelor's degrees, one in Engineering and one in Communication Studies, plus a Master's in Design. That combination means I can guide you through challenging technical material and communicate it in a way that is easy to grasp. What I care most about is helping students get to a place where they don't need me anymore. I know that sounds like a strange thing for a tutor to say, but I think it's the right goal. I'm not here to walk you through steps to copy down. I want you to understand why something works, because that's what holds up under pressure, on a test you haven't seen before. If you're ready to ace that test or prove that theorem that's been bugging you, reach out and let's work together

I'm fairly good at math. I love art and music and movies and make sure to spare some time for a good TV show once in a while. I'm plenty mature, but I have to admit I have a soft spot for cartoons. Learning and teaching are my lifelong passions, and it is this passion that I hope to impart to my students; I want to infect my students with the intellectual enthusiasm that has brought so many rewards to my own life. Hobbies: books, music, art, movies, reading, writing

I am a sophomore in college at McGill University and am studying Biology and Computer Science. I am passionate about science and would love to help kids who are struggling with it. I hope through tutoring I can help children find the love for learning that I have found. This is in the end the best motivation a child can have. I struggled a lot at the beginning of classes and know what it feels like when something doesn't click. I use this when I tutor and know to go slowly and diligently through everything. I have one year of professional experience in a tutoring center and have worked with children of all ages. I have training to teach anything from reading to Java programming. Tutors helped me through many classes and I would love to be able to do that for your child!

Aside from academics, I'm passionate about community service (I'm a director for a student-run homeless shelter!), music, digital design, and baking!

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Waukegan's 30 schools and both school districts with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a school in Waukegan School District 60 or District 61, we match them with tutors who understand the local curriculum and can support their specific academic needs.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 13.7:1 in Waukegan schools, many students benefit from one-on-one attention that goes deeper than what's possible in a traditional classroom setting. Personalized tutoring fills that gap by giving your student dedicated time to ask questions, work through challenging concepts, and build confidence at their own pace.
Tutors work with students to master Illinois State Standards and prepare for state assessments like PARCC and SAT/ACT exams. They tailor instruction to your student's specific grade level and subject, ensuring they're building the skills and knowledge Illinois schools expect while addressing any gaps holding them back.
Students in Waukegan frequently seek tutoring in math, reading and writing, science, and test prep for standardized exams. We also support students in Spanish, algebra, geometry, and other subjects where individualized instruction helps them catch up or move ahead of grade-level expectations.
The first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's academic strengths, challenges, and goals. They'll assess what's working well and where support is needed, then create a personalized plan to help your student succeed—whether that's closing a specific skill gap or preparing for an important exam.
Many students see improvement within a few weeks of consistent tutoring, though the timeline depends on the subject and how far behind they are. Research shows that personalized 1-on-1 instruction is highly effective at closing gaps. Varsity Tutors can connect you with a tutor quickly so your student can start getting the support they need right away.
Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions. We work with families to find options that fit their budget. Contact us to discuss your student's needs and get personalized pricing information for your situation.
