10+ years of tutoring
Rachel
- I am a tutor and teacher based in Brooklyn, NY. I am passionate about working with students because I love learning, myself.
About Me
I enjoy one-on-one sessions because we can take our time, enjoy the process, and I can focus on each student's individual needs. My strongest subjects are English (reading, comprehension, writing, sentence structure, parts of speech/figurative language, grammar, etc.), Literature (essays, poetry, critical thinking, etc.), and Psychology (AP psychology, abnormal psychology, sociology, etc.). I also have success in test preparation, especially for Critical Reading and Writing portions of exams. I feel confident in History, Science, and Math, up to sophomore year of high school. My goal as a tutor is, of course, to improve a student's grades and test scores. But I believe what may be even more important is to nurture a student's love for learning itself. I aim to hone the muscle of showing up to the work ready to try. I achieve this by creating a positive atmosphere, approaching education with an open mind and sense of humor, which, in turn, results in high motivation and resilience. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Theater and English from Muhlenberg College, as well as a Master's degree in Acting from Brown University.
Hobbies & Interests
I love so many different things! Some of my favorite pastimes are baking, reading (I'm reading "Circe," and I love learning about Greek mythology through its story!), jogging and hiking, yoga (especially with my little doggie stretching next to my mat!), and writing.
