About Me

I am a very personable, outgoing person and I enjoy making connections with others- especially when I can make people feel comfortable no matter what the setting- and I find that those who have less to say usually have the most important things to say! Tutoring provides me with a platform in which I am able to help others gain confidence in their work and watch them discover abilities they may not have known that they have. I was working towards my chemical engineering degree at McGill University when I realized I wanted to pursue something more complementary towards my outgoing personality and of all my experiences, I have most enjoyed working with and educating others - especially in math- so I feel as though this is a great opportunity to move back into that field. I am now taking a small break from school to see if I can pursue my love of teaching and especially one on one tutoring. When I was growing up, I faced a lot of learning challenges, particularly with ADD, and as a result, for a long time I was extremely fed up with the education system. As I've worked through my hurdles, I've picked up a lot of tips and tricks and I now know how to deal with unique challenges in a standardized system. It would be my pleasure to help others experiencing similar difficult situations. I have been a paraprofessional in Math classes on a high-school level (where I was in charge of lesson plans and teaching from grades 9-12), a private tutor for 10 years (elementary, middle, high school, and university levels, including special needs students), a teaching assistant at Arizona State University, where I taught groups of first and second year university students in algebra, functions, and statistics and probability, taught music at a beginner level (cello, saxophone, piano, violin, viola), played as a professional cellist for about 5 years, and worked as an EMT for football, basketball, and track at a high school. I am available for tutoring very flexibly- please contact me whenever and I will get back to you ASAP! I also have an interactive tablet that allows you to see everything I'm writing on my screen, like a blackboard (especially important for math lessons!). I have taught all walks of people- from a shy second grader to a 30-year old man suffering from lasting effects of a head trauma incident while in the US Army and I am confident I will be able to help you no matter your situation. Give me a shout and we will set something up I'll show you why I believe that ANYBODY can understand math. All that's needed is a creative method of teaching, as each and every student learns differently, so I am constantly thinking of new ways to explain concepts until I find at least one that works. I look forward to hearing from you!

Hobbies & Interests

One of the first and most important things is to have them read out loud. Simple things like stumbling on a word or having an awkward inflection in a sentence can tell the tutor where the reader is actually comprehending the material, and where the struggles lie.

Q&A with Adrian

Anybody can understand math as long as it is explained correctly according to each student. Everyone learns differently, so I try to think of as many ways to explain concepts as I can, until the student understands at least one of them.
