I graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in mathematics. Since then, I've worked for a number of health technology companies as a business analyst, usually helping to bridge the communications gap between programming staff and end users with clear documentation and presentations. I was also a theater nerd in high school and college, and (with my wife) developed and co-taught an elementary/middle school theater program for our neighborhood school. I've been a private tutor in mathematics for a number of years, working with local families on a handful of subjects, mostly pre-calculus and calculus. My favorite part of tutoring is helping my students to see that one little insight that can unlock the whole of the subject or lesson, and helping them pick the right tool or method to get a good answer.

I'm a freshman here at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I graduated from Wayzata High, and I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in neuroscience. At the University, I'm usually in class, studying, hanging out with my friends, or at club meetings! In my free time, I love to breakdance, write poetry, debate politics and economics, and participate in practically every nerdy endeavor possible (huge Star Wars fan!!). I love to talk and will talk your ear off if you let me! I love trying new things, exploring the city, and traveling. My teaching philosophy is that teaching is a responsibility and a privilege; I'll put 110% into teaching if you put the same effort into learning. With hard work and patience, anything is possible!

I have experience teaching in both Minneapolis and Paris, and I have tutored in K-12 core subject matters - math, science, language arts, and social studies. I have my Master's of Education from the University of Minnesota in Second Languages and Cultures with a narrow focus on English as a Second Language. I am fluent in French and have an intermediate level in Spanish and Arabic. My main goals when working with students is to meet them where they are at in their learning, as well as use creative ways to make knowledge accessible. When I'm not teaching, I am spending time outside, reading up and working on anti-oppression, and watching movies. I have tutored Japanese at elementary and intermediate levels, and also worked as a teaching assistant for linguistics. I plan to continue tutoring and assisting in these fields. I also hope to continue my linguistics and Japanese studies in graduate school in the future. My favorite subject to tutor is linguistics because it is such a relatively new field, and it leaves so many opportunities for learning for both the tutee and the tutor. I believe teaching and tutoring plays a large role in shaping a person's passion for learning, and sometimes just one good experience can change your whole perspective on a subject. In my personal experience, I find that sometimes all we need is a helping hand to support us on our learning journey, and it's inspired me to try and be that supporting person.

I am extremely passionate about history and writing, and I have enjoyed tutoring students in these subjects for over five years. I began my journey as an educator in 2017, when I taught lessons about human rights and the history of religion to high school students in the San Francisco Bay Area. I continued honing my educational skills at Carleton, where I worked as a tutor and mentor for students with learning differences. I used my deep knowledge of history and writing to help students proofread their essays, study for humanities courses, and teach them important executive functioning and study skills to help them succeed in college. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to form empathic and intentional connections with my students. By learning more about their educational backgrounds and understanding their goals, I become a better mentor who will more effectively guide them through their studies. When I am not tutoring, I like to hike, kayak, read, write, and research my family's history.

I'm more likely to give an answer quickly when a teacher asks a question if I have a habit of properly attuned instincts. So, if I want your confidence to grow, I need to redirect the water your instincts flow through to the proper conduits of careful thinking.

I have been brought to the world of tutoring because of my desire to help students through the stressful time of taking those big scary standardized tests. Both the ACT and the SAT gave me a large amount of anxiety when I was a junior in high school and I want to help other students through this process. This desire brought me to tutor kids in the local Boston high schools while I was in college and now I have taken my talents to the Twin Cities.

I am a graduate student from Houston, Texas. I will begin my Master's program in Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M beginning in January 2018. I've had previous tutoring experience in SAT Math and ACT Math and Science. I like to encourage students to fully understand the concepts that they are learning; you will always use some form of math at all points in life! Outside of school and studying, I enjoy watching and playing sports. Whether it's basketball, football, baseball, or any other sport, I love discussing games and news.
