I am a graduate of Stanford University, where I received a BS in Cognitive Science and an MS in Computer Science. After graduation, I spent a summer in Palestine, where I taught web development, app development, and entrepreneurship to a cohort of overenthusiastic high school students; now, I've moved halfway across the country from the Bay Area to the Twin Cities. From volunteering with organizations like Twin Cities Rise and The Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute to checking out art institutions like the Walker and Mia, it's been such a wonderful time settling into this new place that I call home.

I am unsure exactly what I want to study, I will likely explore Public Policy, Political Science, and Symbolic Systems. I also graduated from the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Math Program (UMTMYP) in 10th grade where I studied up through Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus. With a teacher for a mother, I have been raised appreciating and understanding the value of education. I love tutoring and have been doing it for many years. I started a tutoring program at an inner-city charter school to mentor and teach underserved students ranging from K-12. Additionally, I have worked as an independent tutor for students. I can tutor for a variety of subjects, especially standardized tests and math. As a recent high school graduate, I know the college application and testing process well and can help explain and guide in what often seems overwhelming. I have also been tutored myself, so I know the value of a great tutor and hope to provide that for others. As a tutor, I want to create an environment of learning, excitement, and joy. Outside of school, I enjoy playing tennis, longboarding, and exploring the beautiful lakes of Minnesota!
I'm Emma! I'm a rising senior Classics major at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. I study Latin, Ancient Greek, and the histories associated with the two languages. Outside of class, I'm an RA, and I spend 6-8 hours a week tutoring and teaching college access courses in a nearby high school. In the future, I hope to teach high school Latin!
I am a Dartmouth College senior majoring in Computer Science and Digital Arts with several years of tutoring/mentoring experience. I have achieved scores in the 99th percentile for both the ACT and SAT prior to college. While in high school (St. Paul Academy graduate), I spent my time volunteering at the homeless shelter, helping out with their daycare and tutoring children. Nowadays, I spend most of my tutor hours helping students with the ACT, editing college essays, or imparting some admission-worthy wisdom.
I am an avid classical pianist, EMT, swimmer, and tinkerer. I love explaining things and paying forward my knowledge to those around me!
I am a native of Shanghai, China who has been living in the United States for the past four years. I hold a bachelor's degree in International Trade from Shanghai Jiaotong University in Shanghai, China, and in 2009, I completed a Masters of GlobalManagementdegreeat Antwerp University in Belgium. I am also an ICA certified mandarin instructor holding a Certificate of Accreditation in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.
I'm a freshman here at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I graduated from Wayzata High, and I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in neuroscience. At the University, I'm usually in class, studying, hanging out with my friends, or at club meetings! In my free time, I love to breakdance, write poetry, debate politics and economics, and participate in practically every nerdy endeavor possible (huge Star Wars fan!!). I love to talk and will talk your ear off if you let me! I love trying new things, exploring the city, and traveling. My teaching philosophy is that teaching is a responsibility and a privilege; I'll put 110% into teaching if you put the same effort into learning. With hard work and patience, anything is possible!
I am currently a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis majoring in computer science. In the future I plan on either working on cybersecurity or game design. While studying at Washington University, I am also on the football team and help watch over the weight room in the athletic complex. I am originally from Minnesota, and I have spent years working with kids ranging from 5th grade all the way up to high school. Whether it be tutoring or coaching, I find it so rewarding to see how much progress that anyone can make through the course of working hard and having fun doing it. When I tutor, I believe that being engaged is vital to learning. I am passionate about math and science, and love tutoring anyone in algebra and computer science. I enjoy solving logical puzzles, and I treat algebra the same way. I firmly believe that anyone can learn math and science, and have fun doing it. When I am not tutoring or studying, I enjoy football and lacrosse, as well as following all Minnesota teams.
I am back in the United States, I work at Children's Defense Fund as the Youth Programs Associate. In my free time, I like to hike with my dog, read, and cook!
I graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in mathematics. Since then, I've worked for a number of health technology companies as a business analyst, usually helping to bridge the communications gap between programming staff and end users with clear documentation and presentations. I was also a theater nerd in high school and college, and (with my wife) developed and co-taught an elementary/middle school theater program for our neighborhood school. I've been a private tutor in mathematics for a number of years, working with local families on a handful of subjects, mostly pre-calculus and calculus. My favorite part of tutoring is helping my students to see that one little insight that can unlock the whole of the subject or lesson, and helping them pick the right tool or method to get a good answer.
I am an educator and artist with a passion for languages. I have experience teaching in both Minneapolis and Paris, and I have tutored in K-12 core subject matters - math, science, language arts, and social studies. I have my Master's of Education from the University of Minnesota in Second Languages and Cultures with a narrow focus on English as a Second Language. I am fluent in French and have an intermediate level in Spanish and Arabic. My main goals when working with students is to meet them where they are at in their learning, as well as use creative ways to make knowledge accessible. When I'm not teaching, I am spending time outside, reading up and working on anti-oppression, and watching movies. I am also a novice herbalist and astrologer, and hope to dedicate more time in learning about our plan(t)cestors and how they help with healing.
I'm more likely to give an answer quickly when a teacher asks a question if I have a habit of properly attuned instincts. So, if I want your confidence to grow, I need to redirect the water your instincts flow through to the proper conduits of careful thinking.

Varsity Tutors connects students across Apple Valley's 21 schools and serves the entire school district. With over 13,000 students in the area, we work with learners at all grade levels—from elementary through high school—helping them succeed with personalized 1-on-1 instruction tailored to their specific needs and their school's curriculum.
Yes. While Apple Valley schools maintain a 13.2:1 student-teacher ratio, which is solid, individual students still benefit tremendously from personalized attention. Tutoring fills that gap by providing dedicated 1-on-1 instruction focused entirely on your child's learning style, pace, and specific challenges—something that's difficult for teachers to provide in a classroom setting.
Your first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your child's current level, learning goals, and any specific struggles—whether it's a particular math concept, reading comprehension, or test preparation. The tutor will assess where your child stands and create a personalized plan to address gaps and build confidence moving forward.
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors across all major subjects including math, science, English, history, foreign languages, and test prep (SAT, ACT, AP exams). Whether your child needs support with Minnesota state standards, homework help, or preparation for college entrance exams, we have tutors ready to help.
Many students see improvement within the first few weeks of consistent tutoring, especially when addressing specific skill gaps. The key is regular, focused instruction—typically one or more sessions per week—combined with practice between sessions. Varsity Tutors can get you matched with a tutor quickly so your child doesn't fall further behind.
Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and your child's grade level. We work with families to find options that fit different budgets, and many students benefit from starting with one or two sessions per week. Contact us for a personalized quote based on your specific needs.
