I am seeking fellowship as an actuary. I have always enjoyed helping my peers in classes with unclear teaching methods, which led me to tutor at a young age in my K-12 school, then in college. The cumulative nature of math poses challenges to many students, and I like to find ways to connect the dot...

I'm a freshman here at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I graduated from Wayzata High, and I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in neuroscience. At the University, I'm usually in class, studying, hanging out with my friends, or at club meetings! In my free time, I love to breakdance, write poetry, debate politics and economics, and participate in practically every nerdy endeavor possible (huge Star Wars fan!!). I love to talk and will talk your ear off if you let me! I love trying new things, exploring the city, and traveling. My teaching philosophy is that teaching is a responsibility and a privilege; I'll put 110% into teaching if you put the same effort into learning. With hard work and patience, anything is possible!

I am an educator and artist with a passion for languages. I have experience teaching in both Minneapolis and Paris, and I have tutored in K-12 core subject matters - math, science, language arts, and social studies. I have my Master's of Education from the University of Minnesota in Second Languages and Cultures with a narrow focus on English as a Second Language. I am fluent in French and have an intermediate level in Spanish and Arabic. My main goals when working with students is to meet them where they are at in their learning, as well as use creative ways to make knowledge accessible. When I'm not teaching, I am spending time outside, reading up and working on anti-oppression, and watching movies. I am also a novice herbalist and astrologer, and hope to dedicate more time in learning about our plan(t)cestors and how they help with healing. Hobbies: art, movies, books, reading, music, writing

Japanese Tutor

I am a graduate of Carleton College, and received my Bachelor of Arts degree in linguistics. I have tutored Japanese at elementary and intermediate levels, and also worked as a teaching assistant for linguistics. I plan to continue tutoring and assisting in these fields. I also hope to continue my linguistics and Japanese studies in graduate school in the future. My favorite subject to tutor is linguistics because it is such a relatively new field, and it leaves so many opportunities for learning for both the tutee and the tutor. I believe teaching and tutoring plays a large role in shaping a person's passion for learning, and sometimes just one good experience can change your whole perspective on a subject. In my personal experience, I find that sometimes all we need is a helping hand to support us on our learning journey, and it's inspired me to try and be that supporting person.

I am a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with a focus on European history and the history of religion. I am extremely passionate about history and writing, and I have enjoyed tutoring students in these subjects for over five years. I began my journey as an educator in 2017, when I taught lessons about human rights and the history of religion to high school students in the San Francisco Bay Area. I continued honing my educational skills at Carleton, where I worked as a tutor and mentor for students with learning differences. I used my deep knowledge of history and writing to help students proofread their essays, study for humanities courses, and teach them important executive functioning and study skills to help them succeed in college. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to form empathic and intentional connections with my students. By learning more about their educational backgrounds and understanding their goals, I become a better mentor who will more effectively guide them through their studies. When I am not tutoring, I like to hike, kayak, read, write, and research my family's history.

I'm more likely to give an answer quickly when a teacher asks a question if I have a habit of properly attuned instincts. So, if I want your confidence to grow, I need to redirect the water your instincts flow through to the proper conduits of careful thinking.

I am a class of 2015 graduate of Boston College. I have been brought to the world of tutoring because of my desire to help students through the stressful time of taking those big scary standardized tests. Both the ACT and the SAT gave me a large amount of anxiety when I was a junior in high school and I want to help other students through this process. This desire brought me to tutor kids in the local Boston high schools while I was in college and now I have taken my talents to the Twin Cities.

Outside of school and studying, I enjoy watching and playing sports. Whether it's basketball, football, baseball, or any other sport, I love discussing games and news.

I am a multi-media artist based in MN. I earned a BA in Cinema and Media Studies from Carleton College in 2016. In addition, I completed my IB diploma in 2012 from the International School of Geneva, Switzerland. I am passionate about teaching. As an artist, I am always seeking creative solutions to problems. This is part of why I am drawn to teaching. The act of teaching/tutoring requires creativity and awareness. As a tutor, I think it's important for me to be able to adapt my teaching methods to match the learning styles of my students and find dynamic ways to engage students with the subject material.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Bloomington's 33 schools and all 4 school districts with personalized 1-on-1 instruction. Whether your student attends a school in the Bloomington Public Schools district or another local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands Minnesota's academic standards and can support their specific learning goals.

With an average student-teacher ratio of 17.5:1 in Bloomington schools, many students benefit from one-on-one attention that classroom settings can't always provide. Personalized tutoring fills that gap by allowing tutors to focus entirely on your student's learning pace, learning style, and specific academic gaps—something that's difficult in larger classroom environments.

Tutors working with students in Bloomington are familiar with Minnesota's academic standards and graduation requirements across all grade levels. They can help students strengthen foundational skills, prepare for Minnesota state assessments, and build confidence in core subjects like math, reading, and science aligned with state expectations.

Students in Bloomington seek tutoring across a wide range of subjects, with high demand for math (especially algebra and geometry), reading comprehension, writing skills, and test preparation for standardized assessments. We also connect students with tutors for science, social studies, foreign languages, and AP/honors course support.

During the first session, the tutor and student get to know each other and the tutor assesses your student's current understanding, learning style, and specific challenges. This foundation allows the tutor to create a personalized plan that targets your student's needs and builds on their strengths moving forward.

Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and your student's grade level. We offer flexible options to fit different budgets, and we're happy to discuss pricing and help you find a tutoring plan that works for your family. Contact us for a personalized quote based on your student's specific needs.

Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have strong subject knowledge and teaching experience. Tutors may include certified teachers, subject matter experts, and experienced educators who understand how to adapt their instruction to meet individual student needs and Minnesota curriculum standards.

Results vary depending on your student's starting point and the frequency of tutoring sessions, but many students show measurable improvement within 4-6 weeks of consistent personalized instruction. The key is regular, focused sessions where the tutor can target specific gaps and build skills systematically.
